Notice They Don't Call It Universal Health Care Anymore

The Senate Version only proposes to ensure 31 million people.

Once they combine the House bill with the Senate bill more will be covered but still millions will be left out in the cold.

I wonder how many low income Americans waiting for free health care aren't paying attention to this little fact.

the millions left out in the cold are primarily illegal immigrants....did you want congress to include them in this bill? I didn't think there were many Americans from either side of the aisle that wanted our taxes to pay for illegals getting free health care?

You are a fucking RETARD. The Insurance companies make decisions on what is covered usually by recommendations from these panels and if the Government takes over Health Insurance they will definitely use these panels. They want to CUT medical costs. Their own studies show that cutting tests is one way to do it.

wow. I wonder how much the high blood pressure of forum readers costs my insurance companies.

Some tests are obviously not worth it. Even parents who love their children don't pay for tests for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy before letting them play little league. Guess the saving of the life vs the financial cost just isn't worth it to the parents.

The Death Panels Have swung into action.. no mammograms before 50 and pap smears every other year or so.. oh well,,
Officials at the highest level of the Obama administration are trying to make it very clear that new guidelines about when to get mammograms were not their idea. There's been a lot of confusion and a lot of fear this week after a federal advisory board said women in their 40s should avoid routine breast cancer screenings.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, she weighed in on all of this earlier today with a statement that said in part this. Let me read it to you: "The U.S. Preventive Task Force is an outside, independent panel of doctors and scientists who make recommendations. They do not set federal policy, and they don't determine what services are covered by the federal government."

This was a fall-back position that was required due to the firestorm generated.

The 'stalking horse' tripped.

Somebody explain first of all why language is in the bill that says it won't kick in till after 2013 or 2014. I've heard that it will take that long to get it going. This argument is bogus because their primary reason for passing it is to save lives.....lives that they claim will be lost without it. So why does it take years for it to go into effect?

2013 must be what they think is a reasonable amount of time to implement it. Lots and lots of paperwork. Something akin to "so you want to build a new car? Well gotta get the sheet metal stamps made, what's next?"

You have EVERY right to go get your colon or breasts inspected for cancer every six months from the age of 12. Just get a good enough job and quit asking someone else to pay the bill.

Health insurance is ran by actuaries. Alliance has some kind of formula to determine what treatment is worth the investment. I know, they don't wan to reattach my ACL because I can still walk. At some point there is a law of diminishing returns. Obviously a colonoscopy a week isn't worth it.

Guys look, we're all for small government. Just makes us look like hypocrites when we complain insurance companies or the government should pay for things for us.

Two reasons why "is in the bill that says it won't kick in till after 2013 or 2014..."

1. The current administration will be out of office, so when it hits the fan, the current crop of socialists can look blankly, blink excessively, and have plalusible deniability.

2. To formulate a CBO total in the $900 billion range, the taxes begin immediately, but the costs are backloaded.

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is touting the Senate’s newest health-care bill as costing $849 billion over 10 years. But this uses the same accounting trick as past versions: 99 percent of the costs don’t kick in until the fifth year of that “10 year” period. And the true 10-year costs are well over twice what Reid's advertising: $1.8 trillion.

The Democrats cite the bills’ projected costs from 2010-19. Yet, as the Congressional Budget Office reports, the bill would cost just $9 billion total from 2010 through 2013 — versus $147 billion in 2016 alone. In the first 40 percent of what the Democrats are calling the bill’s “first 10 years,” only 1 percent of its costs would yet have hit.As the CBO analysis indicates, the bill’s real 10-year costs would start in 2014. And in its true first decade (2014 to 2023), CBO projects the bill’s costs to be $1.8 trillion — double the price Reid is advertising.

And that’s even though the CBO optimistically assumes the government-run “public option” wouldn’t cost a cent.

We are being taken for a ride. This health care bill is merely a vehicle that the Dems want to use to control every facet of our lives. And what is even worse not everyone is getting coverage nor does it kick in for another 4 years.....but of course the tax increases begin this coming January.

There are plenty of questions about this bill that very few of us are aware of.

Another thing is not only does it cut Medicare but millions of Americans will still never receive coverage. To top it off they're floating recommendations already about screening for breast-cancer, prostrate-cancer, and now cervical-cancer. You have to put off checking yourself for this cancer according to the powers that be because someone in Washington decided you don't need it. Pap smears won't be recommended until a woman reaches her 30s. I wonder how many women in their 20s will die from cancer because they had to wait a few years to get the proper screening that is in place today.

Here in Tennessee Tenn Care went broke and 400,000 beneficiaries had to be removed from coverage just to keep it afloat. I think we can expect the same from national health care.

More jobs will be lost and more will have to rely on the government to survive.

No, not everyone will be covered, but you will get free abortions, and you will be forced out of your present health care eventually, and your taxes will increase to the point that you will not be able to control your income. All funds will have to be deposited into a government monitored bank account and whatever is left over after all of the new fees and taxes are taken out will be yours.....and you will learn to love it.

Great post.

And how about questioning why the Dems voted down an amendment which would require all of the politicrats to be covered by this bill: that's 9 million exemptions!

They have some pretty good mathamagicians in DC. I would ask for one provision to be added in this bill. If it doesn't work they way they say, everyone who voted for it goes to jail for life.

Sounds like you might have made that up.

Obama said that's not a problem because next year he'll sign anything that grants amnesty to illegals so they will fall under the program then anyway.

It's more scare tactics from the cons, like death panels. Those recommendations about mammograms are from health professionals, and won't effect coverage.

Everyone paying attention can read the writing on the wall.....and folks like you are still there shouting at everyone like it'll never happen, that or worst fears won't soon be a reality.

You have to use some common-sense and common-sense tells anyone with half a brain that they can't pay for what they promise unless somebody gets left out or benefits get cut.

But keep dreamin bud.

How do you figure it will not effect coverage? Most current plans will cover the annual screening for the 40+ ladies, because it was deemed preventative care. This board has invalidated that premise. Insurance companies will drop them, because they have to reduce their costs. People will die as a result, and that is supposedly unacceptable in a quality health care coverage plan. Women use the health care system on a more regualr basis an men. This new plan will harm them more than men. It somehow seems discriminatory. Imagine that from liberals.

DUMB ASS, the Government just released a "recommendation" that mammograms only be given after 50 and then every other year. And another that says pap smears are not necessary until much later then now.

Its a medical decision made by medical professionals and in no way provides for a refusual of payment for such testing.

You people are truely badly informed.

Every other industrialized country in the world has national health insurance, and they pay HALF per capita what we pay for healthcare. Why? Because the healthcare lobbyists gave $3.4 BILLION DOLLARS to members of Congress in the last decade.

Where do you think that money came from? Your insurance premiums! So you are paying the insurance companies to lobby Congress to deny you coverage.

Is this a great country or what?

I guess Michelle Obama isn't bothering with them until her 50th birthday........ ya think? How about those little brats of hers, will they be waiting until 50?

Please provide a link.....because if you believe that bullshit then I'm Oprah Winfrey.

And let's assume you're correct, why would they put anything off until after Obama is reelected? Aren't people dying as we speak from lack of health care? And what do they have to fear if they put this in immediately?

The left just doesn't make sense in this and never will. This program should be ready to go if it's well thought out. The primary excuse I keep hearing is that they still have to work out the details. Hell, after 2040 some odd pages they should have already worked that stuff out rather then put all of those bribes in the bill. $300 million for the Senator from L.A. and verbage in the bill that excludes them from having to fall in with the rest of us. They get to keep their health plan.

I remember a time that when a crooked politician got caught screwing the public they used to tar and feather and run them out of town on a rail.
