I hate to rain on your parade (no I don't), but as I stated months before the election, I said the only way I'd vote for Trump or Clinton, is if someone was holding a gun to my head. So, being as no one was holding a gun to my head, I voted for Evan McMullin, the Independent candidate. I'm basically a guy who strongly dislikes both the GOP and the Dems. I have held the belief for at least a couple of decades. I did however did some "get out and vote" work for George H W Bush in 1992.
I know it's hard for anyone who is absolutely married to an ideology to comprehend, what it's like to think for themselves and vote on issues not party, but the way it is. As a matter of fact, more and more people vote independently than vote for either the Republican or the Democrats. It's the largest voting block in the country. As every day passes, more and more people are sick of both major parties. It's like taxation with absolutely no representation.
Trump has proved my decision was the absolute right decision, it probably would have been the same with Clinton. Those two, were the worse two candidates in the history and they ran at the same time! (Which I stated several times prior to the election)

It seems that you want more laws to make you feel better without addressing the issue of mental illness. Also, your "trust" in government is evident. Would you feel so inclined to have your guns so well traced if the right-wing gains control of the SCOTUS, both houses of Congress and a supermajority of Federal Judges? Absolutely not true. Most kids don't get cancer but we still spend money, time and research cures. Same should be true with gun deaths.
What we need to focus on is not guns.....but mental health. Until we tackle mental health responsibly as a society, we will keep having these and many other tragedies.
We can't simply say 'we need to focus on mental health' without there being some sort of impact on how we attain our guns.

Drug overdoses? You haven't seen the multitude of anti-drug ads on tv for decades? Where have you been? I seem to remember we are in the middle of opioid epidemic that has been in the news quite often. This country is also having a big debate about the legalization of marijuana. Drugs are in the news, often.

Let's ignore (because you've already chosen to) the victims of past mass shootings, what about all the survivors? What sort of trauma do they have to deal with the rest of their lives? How about the family members of those dead kids? What about the kids who are shot but survive, perhaps with permanent nerve damage, PTSD or maybe they are just lucky enough to live out their days in a wheelchair.

Not one in history has been documented to do so. So I focus on the ROOT of the problem, not the TOOL used.

Recent statistics published by the BBC confirm that the UK is becoming more violent and did you know they have no 2nd Amendment? Even gun crimes are increasing dramatically in the UK. What happened to all the "common sense" gun control"? Why isn't it working?
While actual shootings may be statistically higher in the USA, that's a skewed view. 1st, we have a MUCH larger population. Second, violent crimes are more prevalent in the UK such as rapes, robberies and assaults and home invasions. The USA has much fewer of these because of the deterrent effect of gun ownership. Take away the guns and without a doubt, crime would skyrocket.
One need only be open to the facts and not be emotionally swayed easily.
Kid, this argument about the U.S. numbers only being higher because we have a larger population is simply bunk. Per capita we shoot each other more often, we have a higher success rate when it comes to suicide and many in this country worship guns to a sickly conclusion. Other countries have mental health issues just like we do, they don't have the gun violence to go along with it.
As for NBC, they are covering this a lot right now because a massacre just happened and also that no action has been taken by our government. What is different this time is the people who were in the school have decided to take matters into their own hands because nothing has happened in the past. I'm happy they are getting involved. The more I see of this latest generation the more confidence I have in our future.
