Typically you only hear about gas prices being too high or on the rise.
But there's good news today concerning natural gas prices that are at a record low.
The past few years they've been going down steadily.
We do expect to see these prices maintain at these low levels at least the next few years, says Nick Meyer from NIPSCO.
It's good news for businesses or any customer that uses natural gas.
Like at the YMCA, where they keep their pool heated year round.using natural gas. They just signed a two year deal at the current gas price, which is at a record low.
NIPSCOs gas price history shows a steady decline.
For example right now rates are just under 15 cents per therm, however four years ago it was $1.09 a therm.
Every dollar that we have to spend on utilities is less that we have to spend on swimming lessons or for people in need in our community, says Beth Mengel from the YMCA,
Natural gas prices were the highest four years ago at a $1.72 a therm.
Meyer says the rates are lower because of a larger supply created with the construction of a large gas line in the north eastern part of the country.
