There still may be more info to be revealed. People need to stop making snap judgements. In one pic at link, you can see what looks like a gun sticking out from the guy's shirt. The girlfriend's claim was that he was reaching for his wallet, but a guy who has a CC permit would know to notify officer that he has a legal gun. If the cop saw the gun, he likely thought the guy was going for that. Misunderstanding? Maybe, but it would be so irresponsible for a person not to tell the cop he had a gun and then make sure he handles it so the officer knows he doesn't intend to use it. Making any sudden move is unwise, especially since the cop stopped him because he fit the description of an armed robber. The police would expect any suspect to be armed and dangerous. There are two sides to this.

"The investigation into the Falcon Heights, MN officer-involved shooting of Philando Castile has taken a sharp turn from the story we first heard in the video his girlfriend shot immediately following the incident.

Of her video, Reynolds said, "I wanted everyone in the world to know that no matter how much the police tamper with evidence, how much they stick together … I wanted to put it on Facebook and go viral so that the people could see. I wanted the people to determine who is right and who is wrong. The only thing you guys didn’t see was when he shot. If I would have moved while that gun was out, he would have shot me, too. I chose to allow the video to go live 10 seconds before my phone died because I wanted everyone in the world to see what the police do and how they roll."

But as they say, there are three sides to every story. And the truth always finds a way to reveal itself.

When Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, began filming inside the car after he was shot by a police officer, she stated the vehicle had been pulled over for a ‘broken tail light’.

However, witnesses on the scene began posting pictures of Castile’s vehicle with both tail lights operable:

There were also allegations that the police left Castile to die in his vehicle after shooting him ‘for no reason’, but amateur video taken on the scene shows officers performing CPR on him in an effort to save his life.

But the most damning evidence against Reynolds assertion Castile was shot ‘for a busted tail light’ is the police scanner audio just released by KARE 11.

According to the scanner recording, when officers saw Castile drive by, they identified that he fit the profile of a suspect in an armed robbery in the area just days before.

St. Anthony Police Department issued a press release regarding an armed robbery at the Super USA store in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on July 2nd. The suspects, two armed black men, made off with cash from the register and cartons of Newport cigarettes. (which happens to be the brand of cigarettes in Reynolds’ hand as she addressed reporters on July 7, the same picture featured at the top of this article)

One suspect was described as a black man with shoulder-length dreadlocks, who wore tan pants, tan shoes with white soles, a green jacket, a green baseball cap and glasses, the release says. He also had some of his hair pulled into a bun through the strap on the back of his hat and had a small mustache and facial hair on his chin, according to the press release.

The scanner recording identifies the reason Castile was pulled over that day:

The officer clearly states, "I’m going to stop a car. I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over."

"The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery. The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose," the officer on the recording confirms.

Approximately a minute and a half later, comes the first report that there was a shooting.

Officer: "Shots fired Larpenteur and Fry."
Dispatch: "Copy you just heard it? … You just heard the shots fired?"
Officer: (screaming) "Code 3! Shots fired."
Dispatch: "Copy shots fired Larpenteur and Fry. Do you need medics?"
Officer: "Code 3!"
Dispatch: "Copy. Medics — code 3 to Larpenteur and Fry."
Officer: "One adult female taken into custody. Driver at gunpoint."

An attorney for the police officer who shot and killed Castile made a statement on behalf of his client today, saying, "The shooting had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the presence of that gun," and noting that the officer himself is Latino.

Furthermore, Attorney Thomas Kelly stated that Castile "was not following the directions of the police officer,", but he declined to provide further detail.

"He’s very distressed about this incident, and he feels badly for the family of Philando Castile," Kelly said. "It’s a tragic incident."

The next issue is that of Castile’s concealed carry permit.

On her video, Reynolds states:

"I got … the Roseville Police got me handcuffed, my phone is about to die. I’m on Larpenteur and Fry and the Roseville Police Department just shot my boyfriend. They shot him four times. He has a license to carry. We had a busted tail light. And we had some weed in the car that’s about it."

Immediately, the gun control movement pounced on… who else? The NRA.

"Where is the gun rights lobby?" wrote Amanda Marcotte on Salon.com.

"Castile was black, and gun ownership in America — down to the NRA’s messaging — was historically built on a sense of white identity," wrote German Lopez on Vox.com.

First of all; I don’t know why the NRA would issue a statement on Sterling (a convicted felon illegally in possession of a handgun who was resisting arrest and was shot after police gave him several opportunities to comply), but secondly, authorities had yet to confirm whether or not Castile did indeed possess a valid concealed carry permit.

When asked to confirm Castile was in fact licensed to carry, officials with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office told CNN such data is private under state law.

"Under Minnesota law, information about an individual’s ‘permit to carry’ status is not public," Bruce Gordon, communications director for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, said in an email.

However, the county people first believed to have issued Castile’s concealed carry permit did confirm their office did not issue his CCP:

And much to gun-grabbers chagrin, the NRA did issue a statement on Philando Castile, stating the reports ‘must be thoroughly investigated’ and that they would ‘have more to say once all the facts are known’."

Legally owned guns get you cop killed, so perhaps it's better not to own one.

Only when you aren't responsible. One article stated that one of the protesters in Dallas went up to a cop to tell him his gun was legal and then it was secured. Smart people know how to handle it and how to cooperate with police to ensure there are no misunderstandings. This is what a typical NRA member would do. Thugs don't usually handle it that way because they don't attend classes or go through legal channels to obtain them most of the time.

Having a gun in sight of a cop and then reaching toward it is just stupid. We only have the girlfriend's story that the guy was reaching for his wallet, but why didn't he tell the cop he had a gun under his shirt? If it were you and someone appeared to be reaching for a gun that you could see, what would you do, just stand there? Something is very wrong here. The girlfriend claimed he has a concealed carry permit, but no evidence of that yet. The guy has a record so it's doubtful he would pass the current background checks.

Just playing devil's advocate here because I am sick of the media running with stories that they get from biased witnesses, knowing full well that it will lead to riots. So irresponsible. And the leaders, including Obama, should be immediately calling for people to calm down and wait for the evidence to surface. The girlfriend's video was after the shooting yet people relied on her version of the story.

Both of the recent police shootings are under investigation and neither are as cut and dried as the media made them seem. They are partly responsible for the riots because they immediately take the news national and deliver one version that always makes the cops look guilty. But, it fits the narrative and the Dems love being able to blame racism on the cops part and blame guns for the cop killing.

Does anyone know if the officer was wearing a camera? If he was, we really need to wait until we see and hear what he said to the victim prior to shooting and killing him. As for your Newport Cigarette comment, I would venture to say that over 50% of Black smokers smoke Newport.

We do need to wait for more evidence - in both of the recent shootings. Sadly, the damage has been done by media because they spread a story that may well be false and the radicals went on a murder spree. It may not be over because once the media puts a narrative out there, it's impossible to undo it. Many won't care about new details and will continue with the same story regardless. Hell, some still insist that Brown had his hands up.

I didn't comment on the cigarettes, that was the article. I have no idea what people smoke and might be a coincidence. Also a coincidence that the guy looks a lot like the suspect in the surveillance videos of the robbery.

Legally owned guns get you cop killed, so perhaps it's better not to own one.
In most states x-felons cannot legally own guns.

In virtually all states x-felons cannot get concealed carry permits.

If this dead victim was an x-felon then it would have been all B/S what he told his GF about him having a CCW.

In that case he was carrying illegally.

If the Latino cop saw the gun and thought the victim was going for it, then that would be reasonable cause to shoot.

The GF bitch is the one who started all this sh!t cross country.

Gun sales restrictions~ this is terrible.
Allow everyone to own guns so the Indians can have America back as quickly as possible.

I had heard over and over that Castile had no criminal history. Has that changed?

He was a cafeteria supervisor in a local school district. Not likely that he had a criminal record at all.

Gun sales restrictions~ this is terrible.
Allow everyone to own guns so the Indians can have America back as quickly as possible.
You hate Indians why?

I don't.
Giving daft yanks a load of guns will see you wipe each other out so the Indians can have their land back.

We have 300 million guns....when do you think this will start?

Whatever her thought process at the time, she shone a light on a big problem that a lot of people don't want to face. I think the cop panicked, Castile was confused about the conflicting orders from the cop, and it's going to be a he said/she said argument because the cop didn't have a body cam. The cop got rattled by the presence of Castile's gun. I would bet he didn't wake up that morning saying "I'm gonna do my best to kill me a n*gger today," based on his immediate reaction afterwards. He was horrified. Would a white guy with red hair and freckles have scared him less? Maybe. But nothing will ever be entirely resolved here, I'd bet you a dollar.

So a man woman and child fit the profile of two Black males? Ah, they all look alike.

You think the suspect was identified as gay, making this a bad stop?

If the cop saw a gun that the suspect didn't mention and it appeared he was reaching for it, then the cop simply reacted normally. In light of all the cops being targeted in the last year, I think they are all on high alert these days. Any responsible gun owner would have told the officer he had a gun and then carefully handed it over or placed it aside. The guy clearly was not responsible since the officer likely caught sight of the gun as the guy reached.

Hard to take the girlfriend's word for anything.
