More bad news for Obama liberals: Constitution is this year’s big best-seller

Most of them are just too stupid to realize this.

And *SOME OF YOU* are still stuck on STUPID to realize that those wrongs have been addressed.

But please? Continue to live in the past?
The fact that "those wrongs" were even ABLE to be addressed via the Constitution supports the fact that it is, indeed a living document.

Think McFly, think...

It also highlights the fact that our founding fathers were not perfect. They did the best they could in the social and political environment of the times.
As the social and political climate evolved....so did the Constitution

WRONG... And the answer IS...

"WHAT WAS THE 3/5ths of a person?" Alex for $1000.

It was a finger in the EYE to the Southern States for Slavery.

Try again asshat.

And it 'Evolved' by difficult WRIT. And why it is a difficult proposition to Amend it.

The constitution evolved and the country evolved. We are now a modern society operating as the lone economic and military superpower in the world......something beyond the founding fathers wildest dreams

While this is nothing less than a baiting troll tread, it IS a good thing that more people are wanting to learn more about the Constitution.

What we see here in this series of posts immediately before yours is (I haven't looked further yet...) is
how posters, ostensibly not believers in egalitarianism, feel about their fellow citizens, ordinary though they may be (or maybe because of their ordinariness), who don't share their enthusiasm for the recent political turn of events and so have become enough alarmed to get out the "book of rules" to once again take stock.

Today thirteen of the 25 books on the Amazon "movers & Shakers" list are about the "founders," their lives, the founding history, and the significance of some of the documents of the era. All thirteen of those books have had recent mention on the Glen Beck program.

How odd that a citizenry of politically savvy citizens would familiarize themselves with the constitution when so many new laws that are soon to effect their own and their children's lives and freedoms presently are being discussed by learned attorneys and academic scholars with an eye towards challenges to aspects of their constitutionality. This concern is shared by many state AGs and professors of constitutional law.

For too long people, the self styled elites among us, insult their fellow citizens as TV zombies; more in tune with "Survivor," "American Idol," or "Dancing with the Stars" than with the important issues of the day; then when they show real interest in the nitt-gritty, they are slammed for pretensions of intellect for trying to understand the rules of game, which American politics has always been; the game of politics.

Any society ought to find reason for a new hope in such an interest and sense of duty to more responsible citizenship, but it is being derided as if they are not sufficiently competent as citizens to become so involved in their own elections. The implication is that either they aren't intelligent enough to think for themselves (If they could they would understand what is good for them) ... or they are simply "tools" of demagogues.

This is a sad commentary on the growing class of elitists "True Believers" who feel they should be able to make judgments for lesser folks "who just don't get it" or don't know what is good for them.

Demand for copies of the U.S. Constitution is skyrocketing.
The increased interest comes amid the rise of the Tea Party movement and as both parties cite the Constitution to advance their agendas.

The pocket edition of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence ranked 10th on the Government Printing Office’s (GPO) best-seller list in March.

Since September 2009, the GPO has sold more than 8,700 copies of the pocket Constitution to the public, according to GPO spokesman Gary Somerset. That is a higher sell rate than in recent years.

Those sales are in addition to the thousands of copies given to members of Congress each year. Congress authorized a resolution in 2009 to print 441,000 copies for the use of the House (1,000 for each member) and 100,000 copies for the Senate (1,000 for each senator).

Liberals are SURE not going to like that. They want us to believe in the Constitution being a "living document" as Al Gore called it. What's the translation for that one?

It means the Constitution means anything liberals say it does.

They don't want people actually READING the constitution. They might notice things like there IS a 2nd Amendment in there or there are no words like "separation of church and state."

Hey! We can't have that!

What about that 10th Amendment????? People might find out Arizona is perfectly within their rights to have enforce immigration laws.

OH WE DEFINITELY CAN'T HAVE THAT!:eek::eek:

More stuff for liberals to worry about, and more stuff for me to smile about. :D

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Did you see what Texas did with the school-books. Texas btw--typically sets the premise for most school text books in the country.

They are so ticked at liberals and the way liberals have been teaching the ways of our government over the last decades== that they have jumped in--and we will now be teaching our children about our country--called the "constitutional republic" versus "democratic" government.

Dang! I can't give REP for this one either.

Note to Granny: See who won the last two elections

"We the People" have spoken

Well, let's see ... the last two elections ... Bush won one. I'm sure he did, because Obama took office after Bush. That sounds about right. So, yes, "We the People" are now expressing our outrage and trying to regain our government as set forth in the US Constitution. Which, by the way, is not a living, breathing document.

2006: "We the People" voted out Republicans in response to their disastrous war in Iraq

2008: "We the People" voted out Republicans in response to their disastrous economy

We had PRESIDENTIAL elections in 2006 and 2008? Damn. Where the hell was I? I usually don't miss Presidential elections.

 Right, suddenly they care about he constitution, but didn't care when patriot act installed and Bush's wiretapping occurred or when US citizens suspected of terrorist activities aren't given their constitutional rights

good, maybe the republicans will learn something about how the government works.

One thing they need to learn is that the constitution is a living document, and the supreme court rules on new laws as to whether they violate the constitution or not. Instead of calling every judgement they don't agree with "judicial activism".

So many only seem to care about the constitution when it has to do with something they agree with

As I recall you are not even an American citizen. As for your bullshit claims, none of them are true. The Patriot Act is completely legal and within the frame work of the Constitution and it does not deny anyone Constitutional protections granted. The Supreme Court already threw out the part that let the Government indefinitely detain anyone arrested in the US. So even that is a lie by you. As for wire tapping, might want to talk to your buddy Obama, seems he has no problem with it either and wants to EXPAND it to everyone not just incoming calls from out of Country.

<snip>
Why would it be bad news for "liberals". The constitution was written by liberals. It's conservatives that want to secede. It's conservatives that want to bring down the government. Sometimes, I think they won't be satisfied until this country is a "Christian Iran".

Just as a point of discussion, modern liberalism and a strong central government are synonomous. The Constitution defines a Republic that is stronger than a Confederacy, but still reserves to the States more power than is reserved to the Feds.

If you believe what you wrote above, you really need to educate yourself more completely.

From the words and ideas in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the writers of the Constituion, by today's standards, would certainly be Conservatives. The main idea of the Revolution and of the Constitutional Convention was to throw of the yoke of government centralized to London.

Did you miss that little tid bit in your history lessons?

The words "make no law" appear more often than "make a law to control every damn thing". By that simple test, the Framers are defined as Conservatives.

Rightwinger didn't say "Presidential", Granny. If there isn't a Presidential candidate on the ballot, it doesn't count as an election? That's an odd way of looking at things.

Then how do you explain that the Constitution used to support slavery, denied women the vote, allowed drinking, then didn't allow drinking, then allowed drinking again?

Sounds living and breathing to me

Most of them are just too stupid to realize this.

And *SOME OF YOU* are still stuck on STUPID to realize that those wrongs have been addressed.

Yes, and now that they've been addressed, let us ignore all else that ails us as a people. Let us take the corporatist mumbo jumbo spewed by right wing psycho pundits like Hannity and (uggghhh) Mark fuckin' Levin :)ahole-1:) and reverberate it like GOSPEL... After all, these guys are really just looking out for everyone's best interests, right? Trying to stop the onward march of Socialism or Marxism or Statism or whatever other buzz-word your about to throw at me in all caps is the flavor of the week, right?

These ARE personality types that opposed emancipation, women's suffrage, civil rights, et al; a lot of them still do in their heart of hearts.

And had moronic-possible-down's-syndrome-suffering-infants like Hannity and alpha-male-wannabe-angry-boisterous-Napolean-complex-penis-envy-losers like Levin been able to broadcast their garbage to such large crowds as is possible today, there'd have been guys just like you that swallowed it all up whole and pissed and moaned about how this is unconstitutional! and that's unconstitutional! just like you're doing now.

Weird the way wingnuts like to carry a copy of the Constitution in their pockets. Why? So they can take it out and wave it in front of their friends? Do they think that carrying around means that everyone will think that they've read it and understand it?

If you want a copy of the Constitution, for reference, you complete with notes indicating which amendments have been overwritten by other amendments, there available all over the internet. Just download it, print it if you want, and try READING IT FOR A CHANGE.

But , they would undermine the whole flag waving, phony patriotism that's the real intention of the wingnuts.

Yes, but you see, in those days, they objected to being taxed without representation in their own government; Modern "Conservatives" HAD representation in 06 & 08, they just lost the elections and now are screeching and kicking like 5-year olds because their 30-year booze-cruise just hit the iceberg.

THE PEOPLE hold the ultimate power; Above the fed, above the States, even above the Constitution. And the people knowingly, willingly, intentionally elected progressive candidates in the last 2 elections.

Yeah, it's DUMB to read the constitution! Those stoopid conservatives, how dare they refer to it when we shit all over it!

How did Ronald Reagan do in shrinking government? He talked the talk but didn't walk the walk

The thing is, there are a lot of people trying to get educated and that's good. But the sources out there can be very good, or incredibly and horribly bad. Too many people are listening to the latter kind and nodding along blissfully.

It's one thing to espouse originalism or one of its subcategories as your preferred method of interpretation, it's a legitimate method of viewing the document and what it represents and I have no problem with that even if I tend to disagree. But the propaganda machine is going far beyond a legitimate, organic originalist meaning and into what some shysters have done with the Bible - chopping it up and accepting only those parts that can be skewed to fit their personal agenda instead of understanding the whole for what it is and forming an opinion based on reality.

I've poked fun at it, but it's sad really.
