Just to set the record straight, if you are referring to his "pause", yes.

He dropped out of the race, claiming that the nomination of Bill Clinton was somehow meaning that the balance of the Universe was ok again and then, he dropped back into the race.

Not exactly. He "suspended" his campaign, but his volunteer were still out there trying to get him and Admiral Stockdale on every ballot in all 50 states. So he never really stopped his campaign, he just stopped opening himself up to public scrutiny by doing interviews with people who weren't Larry King.

By that time, most of the serious people realized he was a joke, so no name politician every replaced poor Admiral Stockdale on the ballot.
