the miami herald seems to have been prepared for desantis' surprise drop out, publishing an honest appraisal of what this quixotic fight, that desantis never tried to win, cost their state.

i'll post a link when i get a better one, but here is an excerpt.,

DeSantisā€™ Florida Blueprint

So now DeSantisā€™ presidential campaign has ended. But the damage of the laws he has pushed through in Florida, as he landed more appearances on Fox News, will live on. Without his political ambitions, there likely wouldnā€™t be ā€œDonā€™t say gay,ā€ woke wars and the waste of state resources to fight meaningless battles against drag queen bars. These were efforts to appeal to Trumpā€™s base but his supporters refused to leave the former president, especially after he was indicted.

DeSantisā€™ hard-right stances on issues like abortion and the Ukraine war ā€” which he once called a ā€œterritorial disputeā€ before walking that comment back ā€” alienated moderate voters. In the end, DeSantis became a candidate without a lane. What an outcome for a Florida governor who established himself as the dominant figure in state politics and who had the Legislature under his thumb. In the past two years, lawmakers have given DeSantis most of his priorities, often with little vetting, resulting in laws that are ambiguous and confusing, perhaps by design.

That article was probably written several weeks ago. You didn't have to be a prophet of God to see all that coming.

Ron's all done. He's permanently damaged his brand. No one wants a fascist as President. Especially not one who goes to war with one of his states biggest employers. He thought the act would play to the MAGA base and like Nikki Haley, thought Trump would be long gone by the time the real election season came along. He thought wrong. :)

Trump will appoint him something, maybe even pick him as his running mate.

make him ambassador to somewhere far away and harmless.

his ambition may be "fox news host." any chance of that?

His ambition is power for the sake of power. He was an existential threat. Now that he has been dispatched, we can get back to warming ourselves by the dumpster fire. I may have to vote for Cornelius West now.
