Mental health in America

I'm curious what people think of this mental health thing with regards to someone's gun rights.

I'm torn between two cities on this. The first is that I believe someone who is so mentally ill that they might harm themselves or someone else with a gun should not be able to own one.

The second is that I must ask, who makes that decision? I'm a very strong 2nd amendment supporter, and feel that one should only lose their right to bear arms by committing a crime that makes it illegal for them to own one. The reason I feel this way is that I worry that it's such a grey area that one could lose their gun rights over something and they are no threat to anyone and now they can't defend themselves and they've lost a constitutional right without their day in court.

You could have someone call in on you that you are mentally ill and you get so angry about it and you lash out and then someone uses that behavior against you and says you're a threat to society you should lose your gun rights. Then that person that called in on you comes over and puts a cap in your ass because he knows you can't legally have guns so you're an easy target. It sounds far fetched but it's just one scenario that could happen where someone could be harmed by a loss of gun rights through no fault of their own.

I have a real hard time between those two areas and wonder what the input of others is over this.
I've said this before, laws are no substitute for objective morality. The root of this 'mass shooter' problem is far deeper than gun laws which are nothing more than a bandaid.

No, I mean they have dudes that shave their own fucking nuts. I think that's a sign of mental instability. Cutting is a "self harm" technique that some people use to deal with anxiety or depression. There has never been a single "cutter" that shot up a school or committed a single mass shooting, up until this past week.

We already went down this road. Come up with some new material.
Why?

Abbott cut $200 million from the mental health budget in Texas and he makes the same speech after each massacre.

Pretty much our current mental health gateway are our local LEO, DA's, Judges, and overburdened Courts.

Gascon and equity cheerleaders; where are you??

Buy guns and more ammo.

I've yet to see people die from voting. I hear about people dying by guns almost daily.
Get back to us when a constitutional right is dependent on your fear.

But, as a compromise I am willing to have taxpayer funded free mental healthcare for all in exchange for machine guns.

It depends on whether or not my fear is grounded in reality. Let's say the Constitution allows for people holding other people in bondage. The fear that people would actually hold other people as slaves would then be grounded in reality now wouldn't it? Luckily there is a mechanism to change the Constitution. In fact it's been done on numerous occasions.

The only thing stopping it is people like you. So the problem isn't that it is a constitutional right but the fact that people like you, like guns so much that you are unwilling to give up that Constitutional right regardless of wether or not my fear of that right is grounded in reality.

In fact you like guns so much that you rather arm criminals and mentally unstable people than subject yourself to background checks or the possibility that someone close to you would raise an alarm if they think you're a danger to yourself or others.

The US has one of the highest suicide rate among wealthy nations, it has by far the most gun violence amongst those nations. It has an insane amount of mass shootings. But God forbid that anything is ever structurally done about it.

So you want to give any obvious psychopath an AR-15. Congratulations.

Thanks. I happen to value the constitution. I know you don't. But I do. Handguns are used in more mass shootings than any other firearm. Obviously banning 18-20 year olds from buying them isn't working, is it?

A gun is nothing more than a tool. It has great uses, it has bad uses. But the decision on how to use the tool is up to the user. But taking that tool from other people who want to use it properly makes no sense, and in this case, violates their rights to own a gun. A semi automatic gun that looks scary to liberals, but a perfectly legal firearm, nonetheless.

Did you mean to talk about reality?

Why is he allowed to own a car but you want to take his guns? Did a guy not use a car to commit a mass murder in Wisconsin not long ago? A gun is nothing more than a tool. It has great uses, it has bad uses. But the decision on how to use the tool is up to the user. But taking that tool from other people who want to use it properly makes no sense.
And while you’re acting self-rightous, just remember that YOUR decision would have allowed Salvador Ramos to purchase an AR-15 to slaughter a bunch of 10-year-olds.

Good job. Great decision. I hope you’re happy with yourself.

And we wonder why nothing changes. Oh well. See you at the next mass shooting.
