Is anyone picking up malware on this site? Almost every time I come here now I catch the same one - it floods my 'puter with a program that throws up all kids of ads constantly. Not sure how it's getting around my anti-virus program.

Nasty stuff. System restore fixes it, but this is getting old.

System restore won't fix your issue. Your infected with Malware

Grab one of these malware programs. They are both really good. I use Malewarebytes

Ad-Aware Free Antivirus+
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

Is that like "audio" commercials while you are posting? I've been getting those on a regular basis....I just turned down my volume......except when I want to listen to a video, but sometimes when you are listening to a song in the music threads....they chime in at the same time and just destroy the moment....I've never experienced that before in other Forums.

I learned from another computer tech that you still need virus protection even if you have Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes is for malicious hackers but you still need virus protection.

Download Stinger from McAfee. It is a free program and McAfee won't hurt your computer. Run it and see what it finds. It may take up to an hour on a slow day but I find it doesn't take that long on new computers.

Did I mention it is a free program? Free.

It isn't but I mentioned earlier that the pop up and videos from nearly every right wing site are annoying as hell. I refuse to click them.

Next question. Are Mal posts considered malware?

Lol...I just removed McAfee from the little computer today and installed free Avast, which I've used on the other computers and loved.

McAfee is considered malware in itself I've read.

Have that and still get malware everywhere.
Same here! I started getting malware on my computer today for the first time as well?!?! It happened twice. Both times, I clicked on a USMB reply button, and instead was redirected to some League of Angels game??? Ran antivirus, and anti-malware, and all appears ok. :eusa_eh:

I think it is possible that your installation of McAfee was corrupt. If you install an old version and don't update the virus signatures, there is no virus protection in the world that will help you.

We use Emisoft at work. I love it. I like Malwarebytes as well.

It was pre installed on a new computer. That's what I like about Avasr, it automatically updates.

What version of Windows are you running?
Do you have a clean backup?
Do you know how to get into safe mode?
When you do get your computer clean, you need to make a clean backup.

What programs have you scanned your computer with?
What viruses have popped up on your malware or anti-virus scanner?
Do you know the longer you run your computer without fixing it, the more damage a virus can cause?
Do you have external backups?

Have you run add/remove programs? Find out what programs are installed.
Do you by any chance have a free toolbar installed on your computer? In other words, if you use it to search with, it sends you to sites based on the words you use and the sites generate the content that you are looking for and these free toolbars get you to visit a site that will infect you.

The last tip for you is to get a paid version of Malwarebytes becase it offers protection.
I click on the tab that says "Protection" and I have the following enabled:
-Enable File System Protection
-Enable Malicious Website Protection

Those are the two most important. I have the whole page checked:

-Start protection module with Windows.
-Start file execution blocking when protection module starts.
-Start Malicious Website blocking when protection module starts.
-Automatically quarantine file system threats detected by the protection module.

I have it set to show alerts when it happens.

It was automatically installed and it sat on a shelf in the store or warehouse for how long without being updated?
Every day I manually check for updates. If I sit here for an hour, I may just check for updates.

Noscripts and Adblockplus are my friends.

I have posted about these issues in the computer forum here. We do have a computer forum and other people would see it in the computer forum that frequent that forum more frequently than this forum but I am not suggesting you double post.

I have an up to date virus checker but it rarely blocks anything because I don't download crap, don't use porn sites and don't click on obvious scam crap.

That's where the majority of malware seems to be.

People can download a virus. Lets say they want to download a movie from the web. If they don't know what they are downloading, it could be a virus. If you install something like a virus, there is no virus checker in the world that will protect you. Unethical sites or unreputable sites are known for doing this.

There is no such thing as a free lunch and most of these apps sold on the internet want personal information so they can spam you with advertising or phone calls. What people should think about them is that they are a security issue.
