The vast majority of conservatives are convinced the solution to end mass shootings in the United States is to put firearms into the hands of as many citizens as possible. They mistakenly believe the “instinctive Rambo ability” with which every conservative Americans is born, would kick in whenever an emergency requiring deadly force arises.
There are comparatively few instances of this ever having occurred, but conservatives cling to this myth as they do to many others.
As with Sandy Hook, the Stoneman Douglas High building, site of the killings will be demolished to prevent the daily reminder of the many deaths. And like Sandy Hook, tearing down the building also puts the event out of sight and out of the minds of the American people.
This is unfortunate, the American people should be reminded constantly of the killings, why these young people died, and stand as a memorial to those children and teachers who were needlessly slaughtered.
Everyone should be made to understand the lasting legacy created when certain gun-loving fanatics exploit an archaic and obsolete law which states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed", thus giving every mentally disturbed individual the right to own firearms, which are useless in hunting wild game for survival.
In the twenty-first century it is ludicrous for anyone to believe the 1,281,900 regular service members, and the 801,200 people in the seven reserve components, with the incredible amount of technologically advanced weaponry they have at their disposal, and the nation’s nuclear arsenal, would need the assistance from the gun-nuts to defend the United States in any form of modern warfare. (Any gun-nuts remaining, in the event the U.S. is over-run by the enemy army, would be quickly mopped up.)
There can be no defense for the ownership of operational hand guns by private citizens or the possession of assault type weapons. These are rarely, if ever, necessary to the hunt for wild game.
Responsible gun owners support common sense gun regulations like those that require background checks, keeping guns out of the hand of the mentally disturbed, etc. However, it’s the gun nuts (everyone knows who you are) who oppose these measures, mostly because these mindless fanatics cannot meet the qualifications outlined in these regulations. Their right-wing paranoia and their inability to think and act rationally would preclude their owning any type of dangerous weapon.
As always, thoughtful comments are welcome. Unfortunately, in the conservatives' responses to this thread we can expect only their typical nonsense, alternate facts, denial, and off-topic silliness (e.g. non-sequiturs, transference, ratings, etc.), to which any reply is a waste of time.
