Limited government and laissez faire economics.

Shocking, right? But that was the definition of liberalism, right up until the Left in this country coopted the term. This is why the Founders were liberals. And why conservatives up until Milton Friedman called themselves liberals.

Natural rights and individual liberties were pillars of liberal thought in our founding era. Hence, the desire for limited government.

Today, justifications for limited government are conservative ideas.

Liberalism is the opposite of Authoritarianism. Being anti-Monarch, or Anti-Slavery, Anti-Big Church, or Anti-Authoritarian in the form of Fascism or Soviet style Communism is liberal.

In the recent years it's come to being against the huge power of large corporations as well, and maybe against the oppression of minority races and women by white men.

Basically any kind of liberation of a group of people from an oppressive Authority is the root of liberalism.

Laissez faire economics and limited government are not part of a political ideology. Government, however, can be used to implement a political ideology.
When government belonged to the elites and was used for the elite benefit, liberals saw government as evil. When liberals took control of government and used it for the benefit of all the people, liberals saw government differently.
It is not the size of government that counts, but what government does.

Which makes modern day "liberals" nothing at all like Liberalism. You guys are the oppressors.

Limited government is not part of a political ideology? Really?

It's called logic. And you are correct you do not understand it.

Right so the liberals of the past are not the liberals of today but the cons of the past are the same cons of today except not really but yea.

This makes sense...you call it "logic"

Your premise is wrong.
See, you don't understand logic.

That's quite an amusing post given the first line of your signature coming right after it.

I think that you are making a patently incorrect assertion. I would venture to say that the people you are calling Liberals , are not Liberal at all. Liberalism is about Liberty, I don't think that too many conservatives are about Liberty at all.

I'm a modern day Liberal, let's start with something as simple as the Bill of Rights and see where we stand on each issue. :)
