Let's kill the PC police...

Jesus...so Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream makes a commemorative flavor honoring (ok capitalizing on) the NBA Player "Lin".
Included in the pkg was fortune cookies - pointing obviously to his heritage and nationality.
Well hold on...someone might be offended.
So Ben & Jerry's removes the fortune cookies and issues a public apology to anyone who might have been offended.

I am offended that the officers of Ben&Jerry's are a bunch of weak pussies allowing themselves to succumb to a bunch a whiney-ass do-nothings.

Nope, Ben and Jerry's was wrong to put a Fortune Cookie in the Ice Cream. Jeremy Lin was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in San Francisco.

I supported B&G for sticking to their Schweddy Balls flavor, but they were absolutely right to lose the cookie.

Ben & Jerry's are located in VERMONT, which is a leftist haven for burnt-out hippies, peaceniks, enviro-nazis, government control of the people, and Canadian wannabes. Since Ben & Jerry's goes out of their way to employ a lot of homosexual men. an ice cream called "Schweddy Balls" is apropo.

I refuse to eat their ice cream anymore (even though I have to admit that "Cherry Garcia" is a taste of heaven) because God only knows what "other" ingredients might be in their ice cream.

It's not as much offensive as just plain factually wrong. Jeremy Lin is an AMERICAN. Born and raised in AMERICA.

Most American blacks are born in America, yet we still call them "African American." We still consider American born Latino kids Hispanic. My Mc friends still celebrate St Patrick's Day like they're from the mother land.

What's the difference?

Black people, a great majority of them feel connected to their African Ancestry. And they do have African Ancestry, born here or not. Why do you have such a god damn problem if they embrace it?

I'm reminded of the great Peter Tosh and his song African.

Guess what? Watermelon Ice Cream for Kareem Abdul Jabar would be offensive too. A shamrock shake for President Kennedy would not have accurately reflected him either.

The inclusion of a fortune cookie was factually incorrect, stupid and a tad offensive. Get over it and buy some Schweddy Balls.

Meh, there's no link provided but I assume this was done for PR reasons, and that's between B&J's and the complaining parties.

Fun fact though, fortune cookies are actually American. Even when they're served in Asia they're called 'American Fortune Cookies.'

What the heck are Schweddy Balls?

Wait, I'm going to look that up...

By the way, as Ice Cream goes, Ben & Jerry's sucks.

Soooo fucking offensive!

(Actually, I would laugh my ass off and probably buy it.)

I have no problem with anyone embracing their history. What I have a problem with is them resenting the fact that I too want to embrace my history. My family came from Germany and England. My grandparents ended up in Oklahoma and later moved to Chicago on my mother's side and came from Virginia on my father's side. And I was born in California, but the worst part about it is that I am not only white but male also.

That makes me a terrible person because I somewhat honor the traditions of the south even though I am adamantly opposed to slavery. And I fully expect to be called a racist after I post this because I am willing to admit that my family came from the south and I honor some of the traditions of the south.

Thank you,

Very few of them ever went to Africa. I don't think they would feel so wonderful about their imagined African heritage if they saw the place. It is mostly a desert were the locals have deforested the countryside for their fires. Folks are wandering around starving to death. Their governments are constantly in turmoil. In the North Muslims are doing ethnic-cleansing and are currently in the middle of an Islamic revolution. Christians are being wiped out.

What the fuck? Who has a problem that your family came from Germany and England?

Also, a great deal of black people in the south celebrate traditions of the south... and they created a great many of those traditions. So what traditions are you wanting to "celebrate" that causes you to catch flak? You're not going to say confederacy are you? Because that's about the only thing that's going to cause a stir. Southern tradition, food culture and hospitality is openly practiced and celebrated in the United States with no ill will attached to it.

So what the hell traditions are you talking about? Lynching black people? Klan Rallies? I don't understand what could POSSIBLY cause such a great big stir that you think it will, unless it is things like that.

Nothing. That was my point.

Seems you have a gift of letting the obvious escape you.

African-Americans have very little in common with Africans. Isn't having an actual relationship with your roots an essential part of pride in one's heritage?

No, they're not automatically considered to be that. The one thing that they're probably considered to be is to have a southern accent.

Do you know how god damn diverse the people are in the South? Do you know how many liberals exist in the south? A shitload of them. 95% of people you encounter are not going to equate somebody being from the south to be a redneck, traitor, or racist. The only time that will happen is if the person or persons in question start exhibiting the behavior associated with rednecks, confederate loyalists or racists.

Sorry bubba, but you're just flat out wrong on that one. You're living in a false word of persecution. The first thing most people think about those living in the south is the famed southern hospitality and food.

When all is said and done, the wimps and pussies and girly-men and limp-wrists and losers and lazy bums and mentally immature dregs in our society will be taken out to the curb, like the rest of the TRASH in our society.

I am a hillbilly redneck myself and I know enough people who match your description that the stereotype has an element of truth and is not totally undeserved. Southerners are not even mostly racist but the racists go a long way to make up for the rest of us. My family seems to have been sharecroppers and poor white trash who fought a rich man's war for no good gain, not that proud of it.
