It's been widely reported that during government shutdowns, members of Congress continue to get paid. With the executive and judicial branch's spending authority about to expire -- Congress provides spending and borrowing authority via the appropriations process -- nine senators introduced/co-sponsored legislation to withhold members' of Congress pay during government shutdowns. Those senators are:

ICYMI: I asked the House Chief Administrative Officer to withhold my pay during this shutdown. Until our military gets paid, I won't get paid.

Members of Congress shouldn't collect a salary while thousands of government employees are furloughed without pay. I’ll return my salary for every day the government is shut down because it's the right thing to do.

Examining the matter further, I found that in March 2017, 9 Representatives co-sponsored similar legislation in the House. It too has gone nowhere.
