There is probably not much POLICY difference among the crowd of people "competing" in the current Republican pre-primaries. The whole thing is CONTINGENT. If Trump is not taken out by his legal battles, then he will be the nominee...end of story.

But still, there remains that possibility, so it is worthwhile to go through this process. And among those currently competing, DeSantis is the best of them - by the so-called, "country mile."

He is Trump without the baggage.

The BEST POSSIBLE way forward is that Trump voluntarily withdraws and gives a full-throated endorsement of one of the others. But that seems like an extremely remote possibility.
