In a Republic, actually
‘The Washington Post noticed that Republicans put up a good front as if they were unified and progressing on legislation. After their first 100 days, however, they have only a few things to show for it.

"The growing rancor and lack of progress on major legislation sets the stage for months of tumult ahead for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA), who has struggled to shepherd his narrowly divided conference as both moderate and extreme GOP members seek to leverage their power in the party’s four-vote majority. The coming battles could have profound impacts on the U.S. economy as well as on the 2024 election, as House Republicans pursue numerous right-wing policies that could influence races for Congress and the White House."

In the first 100 days, the Republicans, with Democratic support, passed a law that would declassify anything pertaining to COVID-19. And now Democrats will have access to everything that Donald Trump did under COVID that could have hurt the country. Biden signed the bill. Another bill supported by Democrats blocked a Washington, D.C., crime bill from going into effect.

That's all Republicans have been able to do in 100 days: two bills signed into law. Meanwhile, the GOP is claiming successes. They're unified in telling their voters that they have passed a few far-right bills that they campaigned on and pledged to deliver. The problem they're facing, however, is that they haven't delivered. None of their more far-right bills have become law.’

And no, it’s not the ‘fault’ of a Democratic Senate and Democratic president.

It’s the fault of a failed, wrongheaded Republican agenda that the American people reject.

He was never going to have much to show for his term as Speaker. He wanted the title so badly he sacrificed all the real privileges and power that come with it.

LOL. He has NOTHING to show for his first 100 days. He will have nothing to show for the next 100 days..and so forth, and so on..until November, 2024 when Republicans give the House back to Democrats. :)

And you rubes wondered why we never wanted McCarthy back in charge to begin with.
RINO's gonna RINO, no matter what promises they make to get there

So you end up with Scalise, who then goes full-on MAGA and then pushes us into a default. Then what?

Of course I suspect that's precisely why Scalise passed up the opportunity to challenge McCarthy. He avoided bloodying himself by getting into a bitter party-splitting fight over who gets to be Trump's equipment manager and wash his dirty jock strap. And he'll let McCarthy take the heat for whatever does or doesn't happen with the debt ceiling/default crisis, and since McCarthy can't win no matter what he does, he'll get pushed out, and voila! In walks Scalise.

The fact those DC retards aren’t passing any new laws is a win. A successful leadership would spend it time eliminating government agencies. We don’t need any new laws for fuck sakes. We need less more specific ones.

He got Jacob Chansley's sentence reduced....

Hooray for the 1/6 Capitol Hill GUEST OF HONOR....

So we should what? Increase the debt to 100 trillion? 200 trillion maybe?

Bullshit. The Republican House has passed dozens of bills, many of them bipartisan, including efforts targeting crime and the COVID-19 pandemic that left President Joe Biden almost no choice but to sign the bills into law. He has opened the Capitol more fully to visitors, hosted his first foreign leader, President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, and lead a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers standing up to China.

Republicans all but forced Biden into signing early bills into law, including one to roll back the District of Columbia’s criminal code. The Democrats were pissed when the White House abandoned efforts to veto the measure and played into the GOP’s tough-on-crime rhetoric.

McCarthy found Democrats willing to cross party lines in order to create a select committee focused on U.S. competition with China, to require the administration to declassify as much intelligence as possible about the origins of COVID-19, and to require an abrupt end to the national pandemic emergency.

To top it off, the House investigations of Joe and Hunter Biden are going full steam and we're finding out more every day just how much trouble they're in.

You can have your little spat when the next budget bill has to get passed.

Look, I don't think it's completely off the table to use the debt ceiling as leverage. The problem, as Biden has said, is that we don't know what the fuck you guys want. McCarthy hasn't come up with a comprehensive budget counter-offer. There's been talk of cutting this and that, but it's all vague.

If you all cared so much about the debt, you'd do away with the tax cuts you all passed in 2017-18. And get serious about closing tax loopholes.

It’s always the next one isn’t it? Then we will make some cuts. Not this budget, the next one though, it’s going to happen.

It’s funny how you think debt is a problem of tax collection and not spending. We can fix the debt in short order. Only spend 80% of the tax collections, the rest pays down the debt. Problem solved.

What..cuts...do..you..want..to..make?? It's an easy question that McCarthy and other Republicans have yet to be able to answer.

The debt ceiling doesn't work because it's just used as a tactic to kick the can down the road. Take it away and you'd get more serious negotiations that cover spending over the long-term. It might take a shutdown once in a while but that's a price either side can pay.
