Jon Stewart to Nancy Pelosi: Why didn’t Dems pass a budget when they had the chance?

And so goes the right wing spin.

The democrats FIGHT to get things done and the republicans do everything they can to keep anything from getting done.

So when was it exactly that the Democrats "fought" to pass a budget, TM? In order to "fight" for one...you'd actually have to PROPOSE one in the first place.

The fact that you people are trying to argue this shows how naive you really are.

give us a particular year in congress and lets discuss that years particulars and I will show you exactly what is happening.

You answer first...why DIDN'T the Democrats pass a BUDGET when they had the chance????:eusa_whistle:

Dem efforts were pathetic at best.

Even political cartoonists had to comment.

It's just something else the dishonest left will try to hang on the Republicans. Even Democrats voted down Obama's budget...

President's budget sinks, 97-0 <May 25th 2011

Also, did you know Republicans “don’t believe in” Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, clean air, clean water, food safety, public safety and public education? I surely didn’t. Honestly, I’m not even sure what it means to not believe in them — to not acknowledge their existence? To not desire them? If what she’s trying to say is Republicans don’t believe in Big Government, then sure: They’ve seen the inefficacy, the inefficiency, the clumsiness of programs that often do the opposite of what they’re intended to do — and they’d rather empower people to take personal responsibility than to continue to perpetuate dependency. But that’s rather different than not believing in programs that, like it or not, have become part of the political landscape and have to be addressed one way or another.

The conservative position is that folks should kick their "dependency" on clean air, clean water, and non-toxic food?

Why waste time on something you know they opposition will not allow you to get done?

They instead worked on what they thought might have a chance at getting done.

You all know full well any budget they proffered would have merely been a waste of time.

That is how the republicans react while in office.

They spend little time in actual work and spend all their efforts working to get re elected.

It was too close to election time...Democrats wanted more taxes...NONE could be seen as wanting to raise taxes in an election year. SAME will happen again on the road to 2012 as the same bunch will try to save thier jobs in an effort to avoid the unemployment line thier constituients are currently standing in. But they WILL blame it on the Republicans.

ah so that's it. proposing and trying to pass A BUDGET would of been a waste of their time..
got it.

No Democratic senator was willing to support it, however, after Obama discussed a more ambitious plan at George Washington University to save $4 trillion over 12 years. Republicans criticized his speech for lacking detail.

It seems they want the more ambitious plan with more savings.

why did you pretend that was not the reason?

You're full of shit. When these things interfere with commerce, and are used to manipulate the people in favour of a political agenda?

Ah, I see.

You're for clean air, and clean water, and non-toxic food. As long as those things don't "interfere" with commerce.

Would the republicans have voted against it so that it would not pass NO matter what it said?

Yes and you know the answer is yes.

Provide the detail or shut up.

Poll: Obama disapproval rating on economy at record high - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
President Obama's ratings on the the most important issue for his re-election -- the economy -- have posted the weakest showing of his presidency, according to a poll released Friday by CBS News.

About 60 percent of voters said they disapprove of Mr. Obama's handling of the economy, the highest on record. Just 34 percent approve of the job he is doing on the matter.

His overall approval ratings are just 43 percent, while 47 percent disapprove of the job he is doing as president.

Hmm

The republicans were voting against their own bills. They would write them and sponser them and when Obama would speak out in favor of the bill they would vote against their own bills so Obama could not be given ANY credit for anything.

This is your party.

They investigated nothing while they held all the power.

They filibustered anything and everything while they had no power.

Now that they have a little power they make sure nothing gets done.

They say they hate government and its the problem.

When they are in office they do everything they can to make governemnt fail.

Its like hiring a guy who hates kids and screams about how he hates kids all day long to watch your children.

They'd like to IGNORE that..

tell us about the great oversite during the republicans rule?

tell us how they came up with solutions to the big problems?

Tell us how many were sent to jail?

You still haven't explained why the Democrats didn't pass a budget, TM. Hard to come up with a credible excuse...isn't it?

The bottom line is that the Democrats never even proposed a budget. They didn't want to put their true intentions on paper because they knew the public would be horrified.

The republicans were voting against their own bills. They would write them and sponser them and when Obama would speak out in favor of the bill they would vote against their own bills so Obama could not be given ANY credit for anything.

Do nothing Dems:

Reid has singlehandedly made 2011 the least productive year in the Senate since before 1989, the earliest year for which statistics are available. How bad is it? Consider:

* The end of the 2011 fiscal year came and went on Sept. 30, yet the Senate had only passed one of the 12 required appropriations bills. In recent days, the Senate finally considered three more appropriations bills -- three full weeks after the fiscal year ended.

* Under the Democrats, the Senate has failed to produce a budget in more than 900 days -- and likely won’t until next at least next February, or perhaps 2013.

* With the House in Republican hands, the Senate refuses to take any action before the House does. But, then, it also is letting House-passed bills die, instead of amending them and proceeding to a conference committee, as has been the historical standard.

* You may have heard idle threats of one party or the other resorting to a procedural “nuclear option” in the Senate in times past. This year, Reid actually pulled the trigger -- for the first time since 1941. And to what purpose? To prevent a vote on Obama’s own “jobs bill.”

Meanwhile, look at the House under Republican leadership this year: The House Majority Leader’s Office reports that it has taken 800 roll-call votes through Oct. 14. Under Democratic leadership, it took just 565 by that date last year.

Makowiak points out the extraordinary fact that the senate has not passed a budget in 900 days, that it has passed only one of 12 appropriations bills, that it has failed to take up any legislation passed in the House, and that Reid went nuclear to prevent the senate from voting on the president's own jobs bill - which would have gone down to defeat and damaged Obama's re-election chances.

Indeed. All I see are excuses and blaming the party out of power when they controlled the whole enchillada. There's no way she will ever see the ones she supports as having a spine to face the voters ire. That would put her right in the thick of it as a suspect of her own foibles, and having to admit it.
