They were wrong about needing a religion.
Okay. Then some people desire a relationship with God and to try to conform to a power higher than government. Others are fine with just conforming to whatever government says.
And it is NOT FREEDOM if you FORCE RELIGION on people.
No one has--or is--forcing religion on people. Let me tell you about raising children. There comes a time (around twelve years old) that teens are looking outwards to see if others (especially peers) look at things the way their parents look at them. If they look around and discover not everyone thinks drugs, alcohol, cheating, stealing, sex outside of marriage or even sex without consent are wrong they will be influenced accordingly.
Therefore if they also belong to a community that reinforces parental teaching, parental teaching is not as easily dismissed. That community can be a church, a club you know holds to your values, a school, a team--and or a combination of any, but your child not only needs you--he needs reinforcement from the outside community as well.
