Is America A Christian Nation?

They were wrong about needing a religion.

Okay. Then some people desire a relationship with God and to try to conform to a power higher than government. Others are fine with just conforming to whatever government says.

And it is NOT FREEDOM if you FORCE RELIGION on people.

No one has--or is--forcing religion on people. Let me tell you about raising children. There comes a time (around twelve years old) that teens are looking outwards to see if others (especially peers) look at things the way their parents look at them. If they look around and discover not everyone thinks drugs, alcohol, cheating, stealing, sex outside of marriage or even sex without consent are wrong they will be influenced accordingly.

Therefore if they also belong to a community that reinforces parental teaching, parental teaching is not as easily dismissed. That community can be a church, a club you know holds to your values, a school, a team--and or a combination of any, but your child not only needs you--he needs reinforcement from the outside community as well.

We don't have to assume their intent -- even if they were Christians (and some of 'em were), the intent is clear: the state is precluded from dictating any and all religious conscience to any free people. Hence, the First Amendment.
The intent was that there would be no State religion. Remember the world was just emerging from a time when the religion of the ruler was the religion of all its citizenry as well.

Having taken this bold step, the Founding Fathers reminded everyone that a democratic type of government would fail, could not stand, unless the citizenry was moral, virtuous, and/or practice a religion. Therefore, here is our check list:
  • No State religion (check)
  • Citizens today are moral (?)
  • Citizens today are virtuous (?)
  • Citizens today practice a religion (Fewer today)
Don't get me wrong. Some citizens are moral and virtuous. But are there fewer that are moral and virtuous? What percentage of people in America in the late 1700s were moral, virtuous, or practiced a religion? What is that percentage today? Are we sliding? Or, is today pretty much the same as yesteryear?

Polls have already pointed out that practice of religion is sliding? We can see sexual morality and as a result family stability is sliding. Which leaves virtue....Are enough people virtuous to at least hold that ground?

The Founding Fathers of that day were confident the citizenry of their time had what it takes to sustain a democracy. Obviously, they could also imagine the democratic government failure that would occur if the citizenry's morals, virtues, and religious practices failed.

I don't agree. There was considerable debate about the entire god issue-- and the constitution is quite secular. One can argue far better that having come from theocracies themselves The Founding Fathers were very much aware of the dangers of religious rule and even if they personally believed -- they purposely ratified a constitution that was totally secular in nature (and intent).

If the FF's had thought that religion would have provided stability, they could have included religion in the Constitution. Obviously, they did not.

The bottom line is that this is very common-sense related: if the government is free to exalt any one religion over another, then what do you do if someday that religion is not the one you believe in? What is the only way to ensure this does not happen? the only way I can see it is if the government is silent about all religious issues. That doesn't make the individuals in government atheists or irreligious -- they can believe whatever they wish. What it means is they are prevented from forcing their beliefs on me or you

What it means is they are prevented from forcing their beliefs on me or you
No one can force anyone into a religion. Every law has someone forcing their beliefs on others. Labeling a law "religious belief" because one does not like the law is a fallacy. Each law needs to stand or fall on its own merits.

That was John Adams opinion. He wasn’t a saint was he?

It was a prediction. Sainthood is not required in order to talk or write.

John Adams was co-author of the constitution. His opinion is fair game.
And the founding fathers of communism agreed with him which is why atheism is necessary for communism.

Well then Christianity must be necessary for socialism because America, a Christian nation, is a partially socialized nation.

Not only are young people losing their religion they are losing faith in capitalism

For young people, socialism is now more popular than capitalism

No. The opposite. The less religious we become the more socialistic we become.

Report: Fewer than half of young Americans are positive about capitalism
Absolutely the more materialistic we become the more communistic we become.

So the truth is no one is promoting or advocating for communism.

They just want affordable school and healthcare. Nothings free.

that is just less christian, spirituality is a product of Garden Earth, the sooner christianity is recognized for the forgery it represents the better for all things considered.

this country will never give up ownership of house and land, social justice is written in the constitution nothing new there.

Right. They don’t need to. Communism is naturalized humanism. You can see the seeds in your posts. You are very much an advocate of class warfare.

Oh brother. You're suggesting I'm a communist and I don't even know what that means.

Definition: a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.

I certainly don't want all property to be publicly owned. My brother owns 65 acres we hunt on. Private property. Keep out!

Each person is paid according to their abilities? Isn't that how we do things here in America? Was that a typo?

The rich have always waged class warfare on us.

Hiring illegals
Buying politicians and have them pass tax laws that benefit the rich but hurt us
Sending jobs overseas.
Buying shit from nafta
Cutting social programs
Reneging on pensions
Breaking unions.

You seem to ignore the war that’s going on. In fact you bend over and take it.

Oh wait I forgot you claim to be rich. So you deny because it benefits you.

I don't claim to be rich. I did well because I did the right things the right way for the right reasons.

And you are proving my point too. You are literally arguing that you wage class warfare because they did it first. The problem is there is no they. Corporations and government did all those things. You attack "rich" people, Whatever that means. If you want to blame anyone, blame your brother. He's a corporate executive, right?

You're a socialist shill, dude. Own it.

Ultimately I blame the masses for either not showing up to vote or for voting republican.

Hey, I made about $100k last year and have no debt and no kids.

If you saw my life you would say dude you’re a republican. Yes I live like one. Don’t spend more than you have. Work hard. Save. Don’t count on social security or Medicare

I’m just socially liberal and I’m not a socialist except for schools and healthcare for all and I understand the value of unions.

I would be making $60k right now if it weren’t for 1 good President. He gave me a big raise. He was very liberal.

And my brother has insisted on giving people raises when most of the other HR execs were laughing how they pay below industry standard to good employees they knew weren’t going anywhere.

I don't blame anyone because I don't have an external locus of control.

It seems you equate being moral with being liberal.

No I actually know the guys politics. I never talked politics at work but I was thrilled to learn the Guy was a liberal democrat who felt the same way I did about republicans

Interesting though the first President was also a social liberal but gave me a pathetic raise. He figured I’d be happy with a $5k raise and I was but with how much I made him it was ridiculous. The next president knew I felt that way because I told him so he gave me a big raise.

Funny thing is I wouldn’t have quit even if I was only making $60k. Too good of a job. Easy and close to home. But I’m glad I’m being paid what I’m worth.

I sold 1.8 mill. We made clear at least $700,000. I’m worth $100k wouldn’t you say? Before me they sold $600,000 a year. Probably made $200,000 on it. I’m making the owner $500,000 more a year.

Well there you have it. A statistically valid evaluation of one person which confirms your biases.
