Innocents Betrayed - The History of Gun Control

Trapped? Hardly. I live here because I like it here. I've lived all over the world. Nothing compares to here.

I guess I could move to Europe, but I'm not interested in being emasculated.

You have been programmed to believe that a place where you need handguns to defend your family is the best place to live. Even you should see the stupidity in this.
A leftist robot such as yourself has no business lecturing others on programming.

It may come as a shock to your stereotype-driven non-thinking, but I don't own a handgun. My 15-year-old daughter got a Marlin .22 rifle for Christmas. Not a very impressive home defense weapon.

Now, if where I live is so dangerous, and I've been programmed that I need a handgun to be safe, why don't I own one?

Meanwhile, I notice you haven't denied feeling that being robbed, raped, and/or murdered is morally superior to defending yourself.

So, people do not need handguns to protect themselves. Thank you.

I think that America is going down the drain for many reasons. The main one being that with all the problems right now, the two sides cannot put partisanship aside and fix it. There is a divide in American society that has not been seen since the Civil War. People saying that America is the best place in the world to live, but you need to be armed to protect your family is just insane, part of the overall insanity. The country is falling apart literally and figuratively. Fix it, if possible, before you do any more bragging.
More lectures from someone without the horsepower to back it up.

Have you seen Europe lately? It's a shithole. Fix it before you start telling anyone else how to live their lives.

When was the last time you spent any amount of time in Europe?
When was the last time you spent any amount of time in America?

Stopping people from entering your flat's building does not mean that you shoot them. You stop them by showing your weapon, they are not as bloody likely to come into your building to destroy the property.
Having a weapon deters crime more often without having to shoot someone at all.

Show them your weapon and you might just get your head blown off, especially if you do not know if you can pull the trigger on another human being.
Don't show them a weapon at all and you're guaranteed to get your head blown off.

Not true at all.

Let's see ,
We have a little over 312 million people in the USA
FBI statistics say that there was 12,996 murders in the US last year.
Of those murders 8,775 were caused by firearms.
I would not call that a ruined America.
Stats are no match against leftist emotionalism.

I would call those stats pretty fucking depressing.
But your opinion on internal American affairs is meaningless, no matter how much you stamp your feet and pout.

Four or five times a year. I still have an apartment and studio in New York City and we also travel around to visit friends and relatives.

That's right. People WANT handguns to protect themselves.

Your wishes have absolutely no bearing on the matter. People wish to have the option of defending themselves. They do not believe it's morally superior to be a victim.

If your family was being attacked with murderous intent, would you kill to protect them?

The most effective self defense weapon for the home is a shotgun. You never need to show it at all. All you have to do is pump it once and that sound, universally understood, usually makes any wood be home invaders leave.

The figures do not lie - increased gun control leads to increased criminal activity as the criminals feel safer. Period. No one feels the NEED to own a weapon for protection. What they feel is that it is better to have the weapon and not need it than to not have it and need it. Your angst against weapons no nuke has no basis in reality. There is no evidence whatsoever that gun ownership is a problem in the US. The problem is the reactionary fear that others like yourself have of guns that makes them want to ban them without any evidence that doing so will have any positive effects.

But guns are icky!

Right, Nukes?

America was a lot safer before the flood of handguns, and people feeling the need to own one because there were so many illegal handguns out there. It is probably too late for gun control in America, the situation has gotten way out of control. I still never feel the need for a handgun when I am in America, and none of my friends do either.

Laughably and proveably wrong. There is a very interesting correlation between the advent of the ACLU and the subsequent rise in violent crime however. It certainly doesn't prove anything, I just find it amusing that the ACLU has had a more dramatic effect on crime then handguns have. You see the ACLU specialised for quite a while in getting violent criminals out of prison due to minor technicalities. They are still a major impediment to putting violent criminals away. Criminologists know that 80% of all violent crime is commited by less then 10% of the criminal population and it is that exact group the ACLU has been instrumental in keeping free.

No answer from the gun control zealots is coming Dave, because the answer is "criminals will never obey gun laws so they'll always have guns." They don't want you to think about that.
Oh, I know I'll never get an intelligent answer to my question.

I personally, only care about back ground checks and requiring someone to hold a license.
For one, I know criminals can get a gun. My brother was shot by a kid who stole his dad's gun.
I also think most gun owners should belong to the NRA.
If you admit that criminals can always get a gun, what positive effect is there in infrigning on the rights of the law abiding?

America has -always- had a lot of handguns.
And... given that crime rates in the US are about the same as it was 40 years ago, while the number of guns/handguns increases every year, its impossible to argue that the rising number of guns/handguns in the US increases crime in the US.

And yet in States that allow people to defend themselves crime is very low. Thos States and cities that deny the average person the right to defen themselves see much higher rates of crime. I wonder why that is?

Totally untrue....

Actually totally and COMPLETELY true. Take a look at the Uniform Crime Reports some day. North Dakota has the highest levels of private firearms ownership and has the lowest crime rate in the nation. Criminologists have done a COUNTY by COUNTY (of the whole country) survey and have come to the same conclusion.

I will grant you that correlation does not equal causation but the correlation is clear and compelling. You may choose to hold to your beliefs, I certainly don't want you to think I would ever try and control that, but the scientific evidence is very compelling that where firearms are more readily available to the civilian population the crime rates drop.

Shrug,,...
