Thinking about how long I've been on-site today reading posts, writing, looking things up, following links, and then thinking of watching tv news to "get caught up on news" I realize there's not likely anything on tv news I haven't already heard about here. Is tv news still relevant compared to online sources for information?

It depends on the "on-line" sources. Propaganda sites like Huffington and (tax exempt) Media Matters and it's clones like Newshounds have an obvious left wing bias. Some on-line sources are fraudulent and other on-line sources use the same techniques as cable news to determine what stories are more relevant than others. In short you get the same "news" from legitimate on line sources as you get on cable but you can do other things while cable news is on so it's more convenient.
