Throughout history, immigration has been accompanied by an induction of cultural traditions and customs. The French introduced Mardi Gras ( Fat Tuesday ), and the Mexicans introduced Cinco de Mayo. Our country was founded by immigrants, mainly from Europe, which brought over an assortment of European customs and traditions. We've been enriched by the mixture of nationalities and ethnicities that have affected each of us at one time or another. Our country is a melting pot of cultures from around the globe.
Now it seems that we have immigrants that want to bring traditions and customs to this country, and not only introduce them, but to impose them without regard for long held beliefs, some of which formed the foundation of this nation. By now you've guessed that I'm referring to Sharia Law, and the Islamic beliefs and customs. Many aspects of Sharia Law goes against everything we know about the humane treatment of others, and the regard for human life.
Religious freedom, and the freedom to practice one's faith, should be honored at all times. But there is a limit to what is and is not acceptable, especially when it comes to the inhumane treatment and abuse of women, and the execution of those that do not wish to follow a certain religion. We are approaching an era where tough choices must be made regarding introduction of immigrant customs and beliefs. If left unchecked, in time, we'll all be classified as infidels, and dealt with accordingly. We must all be tolerant of religions and permit religion freedom. But, we must also separate religion from obvious inhumane treatment of others, and the torture of people based solely on their religious preferences.
