If you take a pledge to support whoever the nominee is then why bother running yourself? Seems like a waste of time.

Imagine you are at work, and your boss resigns for whatever reason. There's a promotion now available and you want it. You believe you are the best person for it. You decide to pursue it. But, you're not the only one. Some 15 other people also have the same idea. If you don't get the promotion, are you going to quit? Are you going to refuse to follow the newly selected leader? I'm thinking not. However it turns out, you'll support the newly selected leader.

Your question would equally apply to you. Then why apply for the position anyway? Because you want the position, because you believe you are the best for the position, because you want to use your ability to make the organization better.

Thats not a good analogy because all the people at work still have to work together. Once there is a nominee the others are dust in the wind.

No they don't. They can decide to leave the company and go work elsewhere.

Really? You think all those people are just going to disappear from the political scene? Half of them currently hold elected office. Most of the remaining are former office holders who keep trying to push their way back into office because they can't get it through their heads that their time is over, so they remain involved in the political limelight. So by and large, these people still end up "working together" even if they don't get nominated.

Cant agree. Politicians are bought and paid for by big money donors. They work for and with them.

Well now.....SarahGOP sure has given us all a deep question to ponder. Who knew that ones support for politicians was an all or nothing game.

Somebody get me some floaties!!
