If Republicans are the party of the rich

Obama's victory in the general election was aided by his tremendous fund-raising success. Since the start of 2007, his campaign relied on bigger donors and smaller donors nearly equally, pulling in successive donations mostly over the Internet. After becoming his party's nominee, Obama declined public financing and the spending limits that came with it, making him the first major-party candidate since the system was created to reject taxpayers' money for the general election.

Sure obama did, rich people can spread their donations out. But in a tough economy the poor will not donate money when they need to put food on the table,

Under Republicans, there are ONLY "rich" and "poor". That is their vision of where the country should be going. Under Democrats, there are rich people and "middle class" and the poor, we work to bring into the middle class.

You only have to look at the policies of the two parties to know this to be the truth.

You aren't going to have a middle class with spreading the wealth.

Liar. Your party wants everyone poor.... reliant on hand outs. That's the only way to keep the rabble under control.

Your shepherds ain't watchin' over the flock, they're slaughtering you off one by one and you don't even notice.

The wealth has already been "redistributed" to the top 1%. It wasn't always that way. You can thank Republican policies. I don't understand why you think this is a good thing? Don't you know that if you have a top 1% that owns everything and a suffering 99% it makes the country weaker, not stronger? Try to figure out why.

That's why Republican controlled states slash seduction in state after state. Because education really is bad. And tax cuts for the wealthy will create low paying jobs without health care, which according to you are "good things".

Don't hold your breath :eusa_angel:

Micro-transactions. It's the same reason a "free" game like FarmVille can be billion dollar business.

But record setting by obama does not add up since most supporters of obama are supposedly poor in tough economical times are not going to waste their money for political purposes.

You clearly have no idea how micro transactions work. Trust me, small transactions add up and are easier to solicit over time because they are small. You should really read up on Zynga's business model and then go back and look at exactly how Obama's campaign solicited donations. It's an eerily similar model.

And worse, he's now got a LARGE list of small donors and thanks to United a mechanism to solicit and launder large stacks of cash from wealthy patrons while keeping his "populist" cred. Obama is likely to have an enormous cash advantage this year unless the GOP wises up.

Democrats can indulge in any sexual fantasy and blame it on republicans and be complete hypocrites about the Kennedy's and the Rockefeller's and John Kerry and all the crooked money. With the cooperation of the liberal media they can still fool their ignorant base.

it doesnt matter.....spending a billion dollars to get a 400 thousand dollar a year job is just wrong......these guys should be kept to a limit.....you reach that limit your done campaigning....

No, they are taking the power away from the Teacher's Unions that have made a mockery of education toward thier own self interests.

Good luck with that.

And we both know why they can spend a billion dollars for a 6 figure job.

Republicans aren't THE party of the rich. They're just A party of the rich. On the whole, they're worse in this regard than the Democrats. But that isn't to say the Democrats are what you could call good.

So how did obama set a record for money taken in during the 2008 election?

As observed, he did get a lot of small donations from a lot of people. However, he was no slouch when it came to raking in corporate funds, either.

This is not a partisan phenomenon. If it were, it wouldn't work. The idea behind the big corporate donations isn't to help a preferred candidate get elected, it's to make sure that whoever does win will be beholden to the corporate interests. The only way that can work is if both parties are on the take. And that, unfortunately, is the reality.
