I disagree. So long as it stayed a one on one battle I think we would stay out of it with Obama at the helm. If Russia got into it... Well... I don't think we would have much choice then. We have to back them off. Step back comrade... Not your fight. I would think that would be enough to keep it between who it needs to be between.

Now if Mitt is in office. I think it's likely we'll be in WW3 in no time. Because then it'll be the Russians telling us that it's not our fight. And... Well... Republicans have a problem with any authority that doesn't come from them.

we should do what is best for america...FOR ONCE...and what is best for america is not to get into a nuclear shooting match because of israel. if we do it for ourselves, fine, but iran does not have a delivery system that can maybe reach to the eastern mediterranian, but that is about it...and we are not even sure of their nke capabilities.

what we should be doing is telling israel to stop screwing around and negotiate an honest, bona fide peace with her neighbours that provides for a viable and prosperous paalestinian state. the offers are still on the table from all 22 arab states but israels parliamentary system allows her two major parties to be held by a small interest group.

We should offer any necessary support in DEFENSE of their country. Iran is not just Israels problem but a problem for all free nations that don't want nuclear materials or worse smuggled into their country for nefarious reasons.

Unlike so many of America's other strategic allies, Israel has never asked US soldiers to bleed and die on their behalf and it is not doing so today.

To date, Obama has taken no effective actions to even slow down Iran's nuclear weapons program, and despite his protests that all options remain on the table, it is clear that he has no intention of taking effective action to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in the future.

Netanyahu has already determined that Israel must take unilateral action to protect itself against an Iranian bomb and he is not asking the US to join in on the attack, but too many Israelis still believe the US is reliable ally against Iran to support an Israeli attack without a US green light, and by calling on Obama to set red lines for the use of military force he hopes Obama's vague and waffling responses will persuade Israelis that they must not wait for him.
