Repeat offenders can be jailed for 2 years for possession and huffing nitrous oxide. It is now a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drug Act 1971.
Tying the use of huffing NOS as a killer drug seems crazy as there isn't much data to prove this.

"Deaths typically occur due to secondary effects of using the gas, most commonly suffocation when the gas was used in confined spaces, for example in a car, or with a plastic bag over the head"

Huffing and driving is a good way to die ... it's a misdemeanor in the 4th degree in most states ... interestingly, we can possess the kits, buy and sell them ... we just can't hook them up to our carburetors, or air housings, and then drive on public roads ... perfectly legal on private property ...

A friend of mine in HS was inhaling it straight from the tank where it froze his lungs. He eventually died from the damage to his lungs. When it's huffed from, say, a balloon, it has warmed up making it much easier to inhale.
