How Planned Parenthood actually uses its federal funding - not for abortions

Democrats used to be mostly good people who had their hearts in the right place, and wanted to help the poor, minorities, and the working class.

That is the party my parents belonged to while they lived in Chicago, because you could be a devout Catholic and a Democrat at the same time.

But, over time, the Democrats turned their backs to middle Americans like my parents. At some point, they became the anti-Middle America party, pushing the agenda of extremists.

The final break was in 1972, when the radical anti-war people forced Mayor Daily and his people out of the convention.

My parents re-registered as Republicans.

But it wasn't my parents running away from the Democrats, it was Democrats running away from my parents.

Everything that you mentioned, son, happened way before your time. It is no wonder that you have it all wrong. You should get with Viliglanty, and join his discussion of how America fought WW2 to save the world from socialists.....

"So, while it's true that the Planned Parenthood's political opponents would quite likely strike a major blow to the organization if it was stripped of all federal dollars, it's far less likely that such a change would significantly reduce the number of abortions the agency's doctors perform each year or how those procedures contribute to the total number of pregnancies terminated in the United States."

Federal dollars Planned Parenthood uses to prevent unwanted pregnancies and afford women necessary health and reproductive services.

Indeed, 'defunding' Planned Parenthood would not only have little impact on abortions being performed, but would likely result in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions.

The callous stupidity of most on the right is truly remarkable.

And of course you support these slaughterhouses that are mining body parts from humans. Despicable.

I am not your "son" and you are not my "Dad." And no, it was not before my time. I was politically aware at a very early age. I was the one who warned my parents about Jimmy Carter. I was a Ronald Reagen enthusiast a long time before my parents.

Reagan was who caused me to switch from Republican to Democrat - FOREVER.

Hmmm. What was your beef against him?

Oh! A "Ronald Reagan" enthusist! That puts you into rareafied territory and the age of wisdom! As for Jimmy Carter, he was the 1970's version of the political outsider. Does that remind you of anyone? I'll give you a hint. His name starts with a T and ends with a P. That pretty much defines the republican party today! As for me, I never thought that I would see the day when I came to think of IKE as the ultimate height of Republican greatness, but I have.

Lakhota,

I think that you are being a little hard on Ronnie. He played the part of President pretty well, even if he claimed not to know what was going on in the iran/Contra thing. His staff pretty much ran everything, and he concentrated mostly on speeches and playing the part. In fact, he did so well that his supporters completely overlooked the fact that, although he ran primarily on the issue of slashing government spending, he ran up the largest deficit increase since WW2. I voted for him, because he was running against Carter, and I had to hold my nose while doing it. However, I quickly learned that all those speeches he made that pandered to the extreme Right, and the Moral Majority, was just words, and he did not really intend to follow up on any of that stuff.

I still don't know why they need our tax dollars considering the huge profits they make each year.

Yep, the commiecrats are all for corporate welfare when it's one of their pets.

They take in over a $1 Billion each year. If we defunded PP, their annual revenue would still be about $500,000,000. I think they'd be okay without taking tax payer money. They should rely on donations like other "non-profit" organizations. I am sure those wealthy Dems and especially those in Hollywood would reach into their pockets to keep them going. Why rob the middle class when so many Dems would support their favorite cause?

"Planned Parenthood’s net revenue increased 5% to total of $1.21 billion in its organizational fiscal year ending on June 30, 2013, according to its new Annual Report 2012-2013, and about 45% of that revenue--$540.6 million--was provided by taxpayer-funded government health services grants."
