WASHINGTON – House Democrats at work on health legislation are narrowing in on an income tax surcharge on the highest-paid wage earners to help pay the cost of subsidizing insurance for the 50 million who lack it.

Pushing to complete a comprehensive health care bill by Friday and bring it up for committee votes next week, House Democrats abandoned earlier money-raising proposals, including a payroll tax. They planned to meet behind closed doors Thursday to fine-tune the details.

The action in the House stood in contrast to the Senate, where Democrats edged away from their goal of passing health care legislation by early August amid heightening partisan controversy over tax increases and a proposed new government role in providing insurance to consumers.

Another round of brilliance from the Dems. Yet one more tax the rich scheme that will fall on the middle class once the rich figure their way out of it.

Democrats are just dumb.

The numbers are staggering, and there's no way taxing the "rich" is going to be more than even a drop in the bucket compared to this spending. Even if they could tax the top 5% of earners, 100% for ten years, they wouldn't pay for half of this shit.

Unless of course, they re-define "rich" which they variously have been doing: First it was anyone making over $250K, then $150K was mentioned, then $100K was mentioned by Biden, they might as well make "rich" mean $60K and hit the middle class, which is what they're going to have to do anyway.

If you think a trillion in new spending and government control is going to "fix" it, then you're a perfect Mark for this con.

What have I been saying all along people? Tax the rich. The Debt has doubled in the last 8 months? Who did that? The rich bankers. So, to pay for it, tax the fucking rich.

Who's benefitting from the Iraq war? Haloburton, Blackwater, KBR and Hunt Oil, not to mention every other oil company who's got their hands in the kitty. Tax them.

Healthcare costs out of control? And a Healthcare CEO made a billion dollars last year? Raise his taxes.

Record Oil company profits? Tax them.

Social security isn't being funded properly? Tax the rich.

OMG, it is so simple.

Lobbying firms paying off/bribing our politicians millions of dollars? Tax them and tax those dollars too.

Any company who offshored the jobs but ships their shit back here to sell it? Tax the fuck out of them.

Want to take your money to Europe because of the taxes? Tax you too.

Who benefitted from the last 8 years? Who's better off now than they were in 2000? Tax anyone who answers yes.

And give tax breaks to everyone else.

I'm not saying the government should take over private companies, just tax them.

Small business'? Give them tax breaks.

1.) There aren't enough "rich" to pay for this shit, even if you taxed them all 100% for ten fucking years.

2.) They will be redefining "rich" all the way down to those making more than $60K a year, because they well know #1 above.

3.) And you're too stupid to be able to figure that out, just like they know 90% of their supporters are.

We will NOT solve the problems of our economy with increasing or decreasing taxes.

Our problems aren't stemming from taxation, they're coming from the fact that Americans on the whole have been making less purchasing power since 1970.

Obama's own DOCTOR is against this stupid shit they're proposing.

Yea, I know what a trillion dollars is. It is a lot of money invested over a decade to create solutions for a health care system that is badly broken, and needs to be addressed before it consumes our nation, our citizens AND our businesses...

MM...Do you know the Cost of Doing Nothing on Health Care

Now MM, do you know what 3 TRILLION dollars is, wasted on a foreign nation?

The three trillion dollar war

The cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts have grown to staggering proportions

Joseph Stiglitz and Linda Bilmes

Our healthcare system is not broken Our health insurance system is We have the best health care in the world This is all about govt control and redistribution of wealth

We will be rationing care to pay for the tummy tucks of illegal alien baby machines What a country.

Oh and those "greedy" corporations employee lots of people. The bleeding hearts should be careful what they wish for.

You have Obama in the White House, and Democrats in complete and utter control of the legislative branch. They don't need a single Republican vote for anything. And yet? STILL doing the war thingie.

Cry me a river. You really trust these idiots to "fix" anything that is "broken?" Can you name me even one thing run by the government, in the history of this nation, that worked?

"It's broooooooken! We gotta fiiiiiiix it" is such a mindless mantra, really. Right up there with "Hope and Change" and blaming Boooooosh.

Well MM, your last post reeks of "It's too hard to understand and I'm too stupid to know what to do, so I'll just WHINE"

If you don't have long term solutions or the brains to see the need for fixing the roof, instead of buying new furniture every time it rains, then you're just a dumb whiner...

Hey MM...HERE'S what we can do...IGNORE IT...

AND...As health care costs continue to grow faster than wages, health insurance will become more and more unaffordable for more and more American families every day. The financial burdens associated with health care and health insurance will only get worse over time without action. The cost of the average employer-sponsored health insurance plan (ESI) for a family will reach $24,000 in 2016. This represents an 84 percent increase over 2008 premium levels. Under this scenario, we estimate that at least half of American households will need to spend more than 45 percent of their income to buy health insurance.

As soon as you see anyone proposing doing NOTHING, you might have some sort of point. It's the cost of what they are proposing that's at issue. It's the control aspects of it, that's at issue.

Blind idiots will just accept any solution, even if the solution is much worse than the overblown problem.

What they are proposing will not fix anything! It will only make it 100 times worse than it already is! This is why they are having so much trouble getting their own party to go for it!

You continue with the stupid roof analogy. They are not proposing fixing the roof, dumbass. They are proposing turning the house into a multi-trillion dollar boondoggle ark that only the select fit inside. Might cost a few thousand to fix the roof, only a small percentage of the home's cost and value. Costs trillions more, to make it into an ark.

What? Liar. We all know the rich own most of the wealth and could easily pay off the debt.

They don't because they like us owning that money, WITH INTEREST! Just look at the debt clock. Mo money, mo money!!!

And I remember righties used this very same argument when we talked about CEO pay and layoffs. They were wrong then and you are wrong now. Add up the white collar bonus' and you see why they had to lay off so many people. Had nothing to do with taxes or expenses or the economy. It was so the CEO's could make more $!!!

Government control and re-distribution of wealth. :cuckoo::eusa_liar: How about the insurance companies stop gouging us and we won't have to take them over. They've been doing what the oil companies did last year, only they've been doing it for 20 years. Their prices went up 191% since 2001. You can't possibly justify those increases.

No we don't have the best healthcare in the world. We are not number one. And if we are, we pay double so we are still getting ripped off.

And what a dumb argument. Hey, the insurance companies might be ripping us off and bankrupting the economy, but hey, they employ a lot of people. Fuck them! They can find other work.

Healthcare costs are too much of our GDP. Don't you get that? This isn't liberal governments fault stupid. You act like they want to take over. They wouldn't have to if the free market worked. But there is zero competition.

You didn't care about all the manufacturing jobs that were lost, so why do you all of the sudden care about jobs now that its healhcare insurance companies?

They make nothing. Notice the GOP hates any company that actually makes a product (cars). But bankers and insurance companies? They love em!

NOW, back UP your accusations with facts and links, or admit you don't know anything other than how to puppet right wing propaganda...

The REASON they are having trouble getting their own party to go for it, is because half the Democrats are in the same corporate POCKET as ALL the Republicans...

More regurgitated nonsense.

They cannot get their own party to go for it because it is STUPID and DANGEROUS.

This ark they want to build..... Not only will it be taking on water from the holes in it, it will STILL have a leaky roof!:lol::lol::lol::lol:
