heckuva job, dude

It's funny how the teabagging wingnuts are getting a case of the vapors over Stewart calling President Obama 'dude', while they are simultaneously at shitkicker festivals with signs calling President Obama 'Nazi', 'Hitler', 'Communist', 'Socialist'.

Hypocrites. But we already knew that.

I'm sure you were equally offended when the left did the exact same thing to Bush, right? Who are the hypocrites?

Idiot.

The Daily Show host was giving Obama a tough time about hiring the conventional and Clintonian Larry Summers as his top economic advisor.

"In fairness," the president replied defensively, "Larry Summers did a heckuva job."

"You don't want to use that phrase, dude," Stewart recommended with a laugh.

Dude. The indignity of a comedy show host calling the commander in chief "dude" pretty well captured the moment for Obama. He was making this first-ever appearance by a president on the Daily Show as part of a long-shot effort to rekindle the spirit of '08. In the Daily Show, Obama had a friendly host and an even friendlier crowd.

But, as in his MTV appearance a couple of weeks ago, Obama didn't try to connect with his youthful audience. He was serious and defensive, pointing a finger at his host several times as he quarreled with the premise of a question.

On the Daily Show, Obama is the last laugh

an empty suit's empty suit speaks

Dude... It's The Daily Show.

Stewart isn't exactly reverent, he does this to everyone.

Sarah, if O'Reilly or Beck had been interviewing him (like Obama's gonna be man enough to do an interview with either of them ) and called him 'Dude', you know you'd be screaming at them for being disrespectful of the Office of POTUS.

Am I the only one that sees that the real issue wasn't the 'Dude,' but the fact that the audience found the characterization of what Summers et al have done didn't qualify for 'a “heckuva job” from Obama? The man is incapable of recognizing that many, even of his supporters, do not like what's been going on? He seems incapable of recognizing any possibility of mistakes.

saying anyone has done *a heckuva job* is the kiss of death since katrina.

He has sat down with O'Reilly recently and no I wouldn't.

I would scream if Obama accepted an interview with phychopath Beck tho.

Him accepting an interview with The Daily Show doesn't water down the prestige of the office any more than Bush or Clinton sitting with Hannity. It's basically irrelevant.

And he made fun of him for saying "Heckuva" because, for those whos heads it went over, Bush had the famous quip and Stewart is basically saying "that's not a guy you really want to immitate."

Mythbusters is a more credible show than Hannity, Beck, Daily Show, Tonight Show, Letterman, The View, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not sure of their TV schedule, it's one of those shows I just catch when I flip by and see it.

It's a show based on science experiments. Way more credible than any of these other shows, and least worthy to be laughed at.

I hate to admit it, but Stewart earned a good bit of respect from me. I expected him to toss the President softballs, but he didn't. He went after him as he goes after everyone, asking him tougher questions, and laughing at some of the POTUS's answers. To me, the biggest slap at the President came when Stewart said "I don't want to lump you in with other Presidents..." in response to a comment Obama had made earlier about Stewart.

The exchange regarding Stewart's insinuation that the President had been "timid" was especially interesting, with Obama becoming visibly agitated.

Judging from Obama's reactions and his answers, I think he expected softballs too, and I am willing to bet he never will return to the Daily Show because of it.

Kudos to Stewart, who, though he likely still supports Obama, didn't give him a free pass on being timid and disappointing.
