First they gave us the scams that are The New Deal, The Great Society and they put us on our downhill course.

And eventually Obama comes along and he f's this country up more than any president possibly ever and yet polls show he has a great shot of winning? And all b/c there are so many indoctrinated morons that believe that no matter what Republicans are greedy racists who only want to f them over. In the meantime, Dems (with some Republican help) are making this a police state and ruining prosperity and stealing liberties.

I can't help but think this when I watch how Obama is allowed to f the country up and then stoop about its Republican 'failed policies' as if the proof ain't in the pudding on his failures. And somehow, this type of rhetoric is acceptable for oh so many of the electorate.

The Iraq war did a lot of damage to the US economy, as well as cost the Republicans a lot of moral ground. The GOP is also useless to undo any damage the Democrats do.

Quite this historian, aren't you?

You're making things sound as bad as the Bush Years.....

January 13, 2008

"The recession-deniers were muzzled by a horrendous last two weeks of December, and the gloom-and-doomers are now out in force. Their key arguments:

* Plummeting housing will now drag down the rest of the economy.

*The "bad debt" problem is not just "sub-prime" folks who should never have have taken out mortgages in the first place. It includes credit card debt, "high quality" mortgages, car loans, and other leverage that have recently become a consumer way of life.

*Pressure on consumers is leading to a reduction in consumer spending (70% of economy), which, in turn, will lead to a reduction in spending by companies that sell stuff to consumers.

*The question now is not "will there be a recession?" but "how bad will it get?"

*The most optimistic forecasts in a NYT gloom-and-doom round-up are for three crappy quarters, regardless of what the Fed does. Less optimistic forecasts suggest that we are, well, screwed.

After blowing the last downturn, we've been worried about this one since last summer. We also suspect that, given the importance of housing to the economy and debt to consumer spending, the recession will be deeper and more prolonged than people think."

You mean those 30 years of stupendous growth and prosperity that occurred from the end of WWII to about the early 80s?

Yeah those were terrrible years, weren't they?

Americans enjoyed the best quality of life of any people on earth, plenty of jobs for everybody, a low cost of living and what appeared to be an even brighter future for our kids.

Terrible, for sure..totally DOWNHILL those 30 years.

First off Americans love the "New Deal", even the misguided tea party morons were saying keep your hands of my medicare and social security.

with some Republican help? Republicans were in control when the passed the patriot act and deregulation of the banks.

30 plus years of Reaganomics ruining this country. They really should change the name to neoCONomics.

Single-parents get a lot more welfare/benefits/tax-breaks than married parents. It's illegal for private individuals to promote marriage with more than just speech ("marital-status discrimination", something anti-marriage people get to do, but not pro-marriage people). Jewlywood now pervasively presents on TV that casual, unwed sex is completely normal and acceptable (and mostly consequence-free). And, as the most recent attack on marriage is Liberal judges are redefining it (language shapes how people think).
