Harry Potter books removed from St. Edward Catholic School due to 'curses and spells'

Yeah, it's a flaw but I'm sure God still loves me for sticking up for the children when their parents continue to send them in harm's way.

I presume that you don't "stick up" for the unborn. Correct?

It isn't really none of my concern what a private school stocks on its library shelves, but I do think Rev. Dan Reehil is being rather silly and dramatic.

The bible commands that we stay away from the occult. That means no psychics, mediums, tarot cards, etc. For some Christians, that also means books about witches and wizards. I am a Christian and I don't feel the need to ban Harry Potter from my child's life, but I have spoken to them about staying away from the aforementioned.

Of course, one who believes that the universe caused itself to come into existence would naturally also believe that such guidelines are foolishness.

I am not for banning any books in libraries and schools that aren't pornographic. That being said to appease the "WOKE" crowd, the author, J.K. Rowling, a woman, made Harry Potter GAY! WTF!

She made the headmaster, Dumbledore, gay. Harry married Ginny Weasley and had three kids.

I've often wondered why Christians still react that way to "occult" stuff that obviously relies on ancient beliefs in witchcraft. Surely, no one believes that anymore? Referring back to the OP, if I were the parent of a student at that school, MY concern would be that the principal actually seems to believe there is such a thing as "real curses and spells."
Good golly Miss Molly. He's a flake.

Yes, we believe in God, Satan and good and evil spirits. We are commanded to stay away from psychics, tarot cards, etc. so that we don't inadvertently invite an evil spirit into our lives.

I don't presume to know you so I'll ask that you not presume to know me. With regard to what my position is on abortion.........it's none of your business unless I choose to share it.

Yea, you probably support abortion, but I'd love to be wrong.

You know what I find funny......... You claim to be a Christian but your posts are riddled with negativity and judgment. Some might say you're the poster child of why people are totally turned off by Christianity but I'd love to be wrong too......... (cheeky grin)

We're both assholes, the difference is I believe Jesus will forgive me for being one and let me go to big party in the sky anyway. :113:

This tendency to abuse a belief in Jesus in order to drag civilization back 500 years puts the Christian faith in grave jeopardy as it signals a return to this religion's primitive and violent roots. Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, died in horrible ways in the European witch hunts led by the primitive tribalists among both the Catholics and the Protestants. Researchers in Scotland, who are searching for the body of the last woman designated as a "witch," estimate that between 3,000 and 6,000 Scots, mostly women, were murdered.

Melville and Hawthorne were Americans, not European at all.

Shakespeare and Tolstoy were from greater Europe of course.

In any event, what makes Shakespeare so important isn't that he's "european" but the fact that his work was so critical for Western Civilization and the English language, which still uses a lot of the words he coined to this day. Students may wonder why loansharks are called "Shylocks", but after they study Shakespeare they know.

ROFL Paleface invaders from Europe are not Europeans. Yeah, right.

Everybody is supposed to think what Europeans tell them to.

Both Hawthorne and Melville were Americans from birth, they didn't "invade" shit.

I was relieved to find out it wasn't St Ed's in my home town in Lakewood, Ohio. I don't recall them being that goofy.

One of the greatest Christian writers wrote all about wizards and witches. Tolkien, Narnia and Hobbit.

CS Lewis' books are different. It's been a long time since I read the Narnia books, but IIRC, there is a clear distinction between right and wrong. Also, it's considered a Christian allegory.

I admit, I haven't read the Harry Potter books, but from what I've heard about them, it's an entirely different story. It blurs the lines and glorifies things that shouldn't be glorified.

I see no problem at all with a Christian or Catholic school removing the Potter books, in fact I applaud them for it.

I'd really suggest you read a couple of the Harry Potter books before applauding them being banned, or taking anyone's word for it that they "glorify things that shouldn't be glorified." I've read them all more than once and there is no glorifying evil in them. At. All.

I was talking about witchcraft and sorcery. I know you'll think that's silly, because I read your earlier post on this, but there's a lot more to this than you realize (and that many professed christians seem to realize, for that matter.)

I don't have to read the books to know that they promote things (to kids) that are bad news, to put it mildly. To me, from a christian perspective it's no different than books aimed at kids promoting adultery, homosexuality, promiscuity, or anything the bible clearly states is a sin... and in the case of the Occult stuff, worse than a sin. Again, I fully get that this will sound silly to you or any nonChristian. I'm OK with that. I was there once, I get it.

I own a few of the Potter books, not bad.
But if the Left can ban Mark Twain, then I see no issue with this ban.

Of course right wingers are going to believe Harry Potter spells actually work. The same people believe we were shimmered into being from dirt. They believe the earth is thousands of years old. And they believe the Grand Canyon is the last big sign left over from Noah’s flood.

I'd rather they ban Twain than rewrite him...

New 'Huckleberry Finn' Will Eliminate Offensive Words

Teach the book, don't edit it.
