depends on which version of safe mode, but usually in safe mode you end up with generic drivers only and just using the basics. That might mean no sound, only 16 colors for video, usually no network or modem capability. Its really just a troubleshooting mode and little else. Some apps will still run provided they don't require anything that wasn't loaded due to safe mode.

So probably not the best option to pick, although it does do a few things it didn't do in regular mode ie: open pop up windows with private messaging. I probably have another 20 min before the machine freezes up, I'll change it back when I re-start.
