Guess What Today Is

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I have 2 already, but always think about having 2 more. I guess I still have time.

I don't advise having them after 35 if you can manage it, though. High-risk pregnancies are NOT fun, and the possibility of genetic damage goes up exponentially every year after 35.

I had an amniocentesis, which is QUITE uncomfortable, and they insisted on "genetic counseling" ahead of time, for no apparent reason beyond the opportunity to try to convince me to abort the baby if he had genetic problems and to scare the crap out of me by listing the odds of genetic problems in EXCRUCIATING detail.

In addition, my doctor loves to test me for every possible problem that might ever arise, which makes this even less fun than pre-natal care normally is.
