Gosnell murdered babies

[

In short, Joe mad.

Yes, I am very angry that religious fanatics have allowed the rich to destroy the middle class by tricking them into beleiving this shit.

Hey, let's see you answer the question.

Why is abortion legal still?

Why haven't Republicans given ending this moral outrage the priority they've given free trade or tax cuts for rich people?

HA!!!! The default ! Your same old shit. A perfect example of your attempt to hold the hill.

You mean unsanitary conditions, unqualified people performing abortions, women being hacked up, partial baby corpses being left inside the womb? Um, yeah...did you read about this case? We are already "back to those days". If we even left them. :eusa_hand:

oh really? why do you think he was prosecuted then?

“All of us are appalled by the substandard illegal practices”

“All of us are appalled by the substandard illegal practices,” said Vicki Saporta, who as CEO of the National Abortion Federation represents hundreds of U.S. abortion clinics. “But to make the leap to say that’s indicative of the state of abortion care throughout the U.S. is absolutely false.”…

“This was an incredibly horrible situation and when it came to light, he was somehow associated with the abortion community, which he’s not,” said Elizabeth Nash of the Guttmacher Institute, a research group which supports abortion rights.

“The kinds of restrictions that the anti-choice lobby has been trying to put in place for years and years are the exact kinds of restrictions that keep people like Kermit Gosnell in business,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

“Peeking at Gosnell’s clinic is like peeking into U.S. history pre-Roe v. Wade.”

Sorry, It was well known how he did business and women were still referred to this butcher by others in the industry. Backs were turned ,reports were ignored, regulations put in place to protect the women were not enforced "by design" to keep the doors open on this house of horrors by state reps with a liberal agenda. Nope...the progressives own this whole mess....no matter how much they try to pawn it off on others.

he wouldn't have ended up prosecuted if that was true...

The conviction of Kermit Gosnell on three counts of first degree murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, and hundreds of lesser charges should make it very clear that the horrors he committed in his squalid West Philadelphia clinic were illegal. This should be crushingly obvious, but it’s been ignored by the right-wing pundits who have tried to turn this deeply disturbing case into an argument against legal abortion.

This has always been a story about illegal abortion, a phrase that appears over and over in the Gosnell Grand Jury report. It’s about what women will subject themselves to when they see no other option for ending an unwanted pregnancy. It’s about the appalling lack of health care for poor women in this country, especially when it comes to abortion, which, thanks to the Hyde Amendment, isn’t covered by Medicaid. It’s about murdered babies from pregnancies that never should have gone as far as they did.

The Grand Jury report is clear about why women went to his grotesque facility...

...

And, of course, Gosnell did illegal late-term abortions. “The real key to the business model, though, was this: Gosnell catered to the women who couldn’t get abortions elsewhere— because they were too pregnant,” the Grand Jury report says. “Most doctors won’t perform late second-trimester abortions, from approximately the 20th week of pregnancy, because of the risks involved. And late-term abortions after the 24th week of pregnancy are flatly illegal. But for Dr. Gosnell, they were an opportunity.”

yeap they want to pretend you can make it go away.

when it was illegal that never happened.

Its why it was made safe and legal.

Only rich girls got safe abortions back in the day

You call this "safe"? So, I guess if you don't see the atrocities...they just don't happen...right? That's the kind of liberal logic that gave Gosnell his career in the industry. Out of sight out of mind. Pssst....botched "legal" abortions leave the mother just as dead. And guess what? In this day and age with abortions being "legal" there is no excuse for these conditions. Period.

Ya, they do have to spin it, but the thing is, he did not hide what he was doing. He was quite open about all of it. This is why his other Dr.'s referred thees late term abortions to him. Really, the law should be combing Gosnells referral lists and go back to those doctors and ask them why they sent people to him, and possibly take a close look at their facilities and records. Pro choice types should encourage this. The media can ignore one Gosnell, but after this, one more could bring the cause right under closer scrutiny.

"pro-choice types"? lol why do you think everyone is so horrified? despite the dishonest rhetoric of "pro-life types", "pro-choice types" are equally horrified...

human beings are capable of heinous acts and bad things can always happen despite the law, until someone has the courage and the proof to report them...

absolutely, if referring doctors are culpable for breaking laws or turning a blind eye to someone else they knew was breaking laws, then they too should be held accountable.

Gosnell's co-defendant, Eileen O'Neill, 56, was found guilty of conspiracy to operate a corrupt organization and two counts of theft by deception for operating without a license to practice medicine. O'Neill, a medical school graduate, was not charged with performing illegal abortions.

Eight people involved in Gosnell's clinic, called the Women's Medical Society, have pleaded guilty to various charges, including four to murder.

The grand jury report from 2011 says the "people who ran this sham medical practice included no doctors other than Gosnell himself, and not even a single nurse," yet they still made diagnoses, performed procedures and administered drugs.

...

Gosnell has been accused by authorities of preying on low-income, minority women. McMahon argued that Gosnell offered access to health care for people who were poor and without health insurance.

During his closing remarks, Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Edward Cameron turned to Gosnell and yelled, "Are you human?"

Gosnell smirked at Cameron without speaking.

...

But that doesn't mean it sets a precedent, CNN legal analyst Paul Callan said.

"The testimony in this case was so graphic and so horrific. It was described literally as a house of horrors taking place in this Philadelphia clinic," Callan said. "So I think that most objective observers will say that ultimately this will be an isolated case, hopefully, and that it's simply a case where prosecutors had to act. It had nothing to do with being pro- or anti-abortion."

The decision was correct.

The LEO need to go through the Dr's books looking for those who sent him the late term patients.

Most of them were sent to him from Planned Parenthood so absolutely go through every record still available and find out just who did send him these late term patients.

you have proof of that claim?

At Blackwell, Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center, an affiliate of Planned Parenthood, the answers aren't clear, either. The doctors there don’t perform abortions on site, but they do refer patients to abortion clinics in the area. These days, Blackwell’s policy is to provide no referrals for any patient seeking an abortion past 21 weeks of gestation.

The law in Pennsylvania allows for abortions up until 24 weeks, but a Blackwell employee who answered the phone says a woman after 21 weeks would have to travel to New Jersey or Delaware to get an abortion that late. Why?

“No clinics in Pennsylvania will take patients past 21 weeks,” the employee confirmed.

Not anymore, but there was a time when at least one clinic in the Philadelphia area was performing late-term abortions on women who were past 21 weeks of gestation: Gosnell’s. Late-term abortions were his specialty, particularly for poor minority women. If a woman at 23 weeks came to Blackwell looking for an abortion, where would Blackwell refer her to if not Gosnell’s clinic?

A Planned Parenthood official denies that Blackwell ever referred mothers seeking abortions to take the 10-minute drive across town to Gosnell’s clinic, though she did not explain how she knew this.

“We have never referred to Gosnell,” said the official in an email to THE WEEKLY STANDARD. Could she confirm that going all the way back to 1972, the year Gosnell first opened his clinic? The official did not immediately respond.

Planned Parenthood released a statement following the guilty verdict handed down by the jury in the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell.

Eric Ferrero, Planned Parenthood Federation of America Vice President for Communications, had the following to say:

“The jury has punished Kermit Gosnell for his appalling crimes. This verdict will ensure that no woman is victimized by Kermit Gosnell ever again.

This case has made clear that we must have and enforce laws that protect access to safe and legal abortion, and we must reject misguided laws that would limit women's options and force them to seek treatment from criminals like Kermit Gosnell.”

"Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

So let this verdict be a warning to others."

"I applaud the decision of the jury in their conviction of Gosnell of first-degree murder in at least three of these tragic deaths.

As a practicing high-risk OB-GYN who delivers many premature babies, I feel that what went on in that clinic was truly horrific, and deserves the highest degree of punishment possible.

Let this also be a warning to city and state officials who failed to do their jobs of checking up on this death clinic, knowing full well that they have a moral and ethical responsibility to respond when citizens file complaints. Gosnell’s clinic was hardly ever inspected, and those city and state officials should bear a degree of guilt in allowing this doctor to practice the way he did.

In the aftermath of this despicable case, I hope that political pundits don’t spin this story into an issue purely of abortion, but take the opportunity to discuss how to improve women’s health services in this country.

Notice she left out the "rare". Used to be they claimed they wanted safe, legal AND rare abortions. Now they have dropped the rare because the butchers have discovered how profitable their ways are.

Women are by no means their concern. It is the almighty dollar.

Awful people like Gosnell exist the more you make it difficult for women to seek safe abortions from physicians and clinics that know what they're doing.

The end.

Awful people like Gosnell exist because late term abortion is legal. Fear of offending abortion advocates is what protected Gosnell for years. That's why his facility was never inspected. The state was too afraid that inspections would be seen as undue interference with a woman's right to abortion.

Gosnell didn't operate illegally. He had a facility that was legal, open, advertised. Gosnell is what George Tiller would have been had (Edited) He not been Assassinated..

Its pretty easy to find. I cant say planned parenthood did it, but many abortion doctors referred the woman because Gosnell would do late term abortions. Not many planned parenthood do procedures in their facility's, they send women out to have them done. Still worth a look.

Yay another thread!
Another opportunity for healthy discussion.

Guilty.

Best he can hope for is 3 life sentences.

I know you are hoping that us liberals will oppose the verdict, but we don't. I don't, at least.
You a liberal?!?

Shut my mouth!

Don't tell the lifers that, they are salivating at the thought of going back to those days.

and you cream your drawers at the very thought of a guy who slits the neck of newborns and then takes scissors and cuts their spines, you're a fucking monster just like he is.

There is no question that he cut the spines of newborns. What is in question is whether these babies were alive or dead at the time.
Oh, pulleeeze!

He only got away with this for so long because he was treating poor women.

think about that

Not so. He was willing to abort very late term pregnancies.

But if we go by the verdict of the jury, he didn't perform abortions.
That is quite true. He committed MURDER! Murder in the first degree!

I contend we could resolve the issue of legitimate abortion versus murder of the "almost born" by defining the beginning of life similar to how we define death. When the brain has no activity, a person is declared dead. How about when measurable brain activity occurs in a fetus it is considered to be alive? Not at conception, not at a set time, not at birth...when brain activity begins. Brain activity is measurable.

Would any of you liberals agree to making abortions after brain activity illegal? Would any of you lifers agree to allow abortions prior to brain activity?

I think that question of whether to perform an abortion should be left to a woman and her doctor- period.

Because, honestly, as long as it's in her body, it's her choice.
