Glenn Beck is right about the fact that the progressive movement of the 20th century has infected both sides of the political spectrum. Its the reason why RINO republicans and blue dog democrats. RINOs instantly agree with anything that the far left says while blue dogs instantly agree with most of what republicans say. Its like the progressive in both parties instantly agree with each other while the non-progressives in both parties see eye to eye on most issues.
The question is: Does left and right or democrat or republican matter that much anymore?
Yes it matters. I was becoming as jaded as a lot of us and ready to write them all off too, but another darling of the Left, Rush Limbaugh, (cough) gave a monologue a couple of weeks or so ago that made me back up and rethink that.
He agrees the GOP lost its way, became fiscally irresponsible, bought into the populist hype and adopted some unwise progressive policies, etc., but he is not willing to say that there is no difference beween the GOP and the Democrats. At first I was ready to debate that, but after giving it some thought, I have to agree with him.
The GOP has not surrounded itself with radical leftwing Marxist socialists or those who favor a one-world government and who are obviously driving the current agenda from the White House.
The GOP is not defending multi-trillion dollar deficits or advocating trying to spend ourselves into prosperity.
The GOP is not defending socialization of the healthcare system or our energy industry or pushing handing out more and more goodies to this group or that group in hopes of retaining their support.
The GOP is pushing back against anti-business policies and regulation knowing that these will be far more destructive than any positive things they might accomplish.
The GOP is not buying into every leftwing social engineering project that comes down the pike.
Has the GOP been irresponsible? Yes, in some ways they have. Has it been hypocritical? Yes, in some way it has. Has it lost its center of integrity. There for awhile it did.
But at this time, to say that there is no difference between the two parties just doesn't hold up even in casual scrutiny.
