46-60....Moved to Middle School (my choice) to Teach Algebra and Geometry to 7th and 8th graders.....Glorious.....These kids are respectful and searching for knowledge.
If I had been teaching in Baltimore, it probably would have been like you think.
Coached Football, Basketball, and Softball for about 90 seasons. Not years dude, Seasons.
60-62....Retired from My Public School.....Collecting Pension of a modest $3,000 minus deductions. Also Working a Part Time job by CHOICE.

22-60.....Invested in the Pension at 10% of wages, plus 403b, look it up.
Look up Washington Teacher Pay Scale (varies from district, but mine was near the top) and Retirement (DRS, plan 3).

Jan 85- June 85 in Sedro Woolley. = 1 year, call it 0.5+ if you desire.
Sept of 85- June 90 in CA. = 5 years
Sept 90-June 22 in WA. = 32 years...I'm going slow for you. You good?
