Lets demolish both the Republican and Democratic Parties, join hands and form two new parties based upon the 2nd Amendment only, notwithstanding political postures on issues unrelated to firearms.

  • Proponents of unfettered public Gun Ownership
  • Proponents of public Gun Confiscation
Liberals and Conservatives would be free to join either party and submit legislation in the same fashion as is done presently. Other existing parties, such as Independent, Libertarian, Socialist, Communist, or any other currently existing party would also be free to join either party...as their existing parties would no longer be recognized.

The military would be maintained in its present form with the stipulation that it cannot be brought to bear on the citizenry for any reason whatsoever by any commanding officer. Quelling of civil disobedience by rioting would be under the purview of local police departments established by cities, counties and states.

Current prohibition of fully automatic weapons (with exception of licensed ownership) would be maintained.

Present your best arguments for joining either of these hypothetical parties after you vote in the poll. Your vote will be displayed publicly, but you may change your vote at any time.

My opening argument is presented in bullet points. Elaboration will follow in subsequent posts.

  • Nations that have disarmed their citizens have executed millions upon millions of them...with guns and by other means. The citizens could not fire back.
  • Criminals do not obey laws.
  • Crime rates are highest in the cities that have the most stringent gun control laws.
  • Murders by use of weapons other than guns exceeds murders by gun.
  • Blaming the weapon rather than the person using it is ludicrous.
  • Today's public officials favoring stringent gun control are generally surrounded by well armed body guards.

The problem with abolishing the two major existing political parties & forming two new political parties is this... the pre-existing politicians of the former two major political parties would just be reelected into the two new major parties. The current problems associated with the RepuliCratic Duopoly Party(RCDP) are NOT DIRECTLY associated with the two(?) parties & their profe$$ional politician$. The problem LAYS firmly with the voting American constituency & their love affair with unconstitutional based BIG government. Our American constituency needs to make reponsible choices based on constitutional law when voting for candidates that are standing for government positions of representation, NOT pass the blame for poor performance onto the CANDIDATES that they chose to vote into office.

The reelection of entrenched professional politicians is not guaranteed. Several have been recently unseated by the likes of AOC and her squad. Their wins were more due to their "religion" and the growth of enclaves heavily populated with like-minded voters. Unfortunately a candidate's race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), gender, sexual orientation...all have more weight in determining which button a voter pushes than does the candidate's degree of adherence to and promotion of constitutional law and order.

Not all voters have aversions to constitutional law. Many useful idiots do fathom what the term means. While our existing Elephants and Donkeys both have some conservatives and some liberals among their memberships, I suppose that the Elephants are replete with conservatives and the Donkeys with liberals.

In the new hypothetical parties, the same would likely apply...with conservatives being the majority of the Gun Ownership party and liberals being the majority in the Gun Confiscation party. In that regard, the change would likely be small.
Our American constituency needs to make responsible choices based on constitutional law when voting for candidates that are standing for government positions of representation, NOT pass the blame for poor performance onto the CANDIDATES that they chose to vote into office.
...but you've already stated that the American voters are having a love affair with unconstitutional[ly] based BIG government. Big government is not unconstitutional per se. It is definitely unnecessary and wasteful.

There are many aspects of our government that should be changed. The main problem is that the elected legislators must initiate, support and garner votes for these changes. Reduction in size, term limits, requiring that laws passed apply to ALL people...are all difficult to obtain because of the aversion of the legislators to (a) losing control over the little people and to (b) being controlled in any way.

Another problem with our current legislative rules is the amendment procedure. Any amendment can be attached to any bill. It doesn't have to be related to the object of the initial bill. This causes many good bills to fail due to unacceptable amendments having been attached.

Discussions of existing problems with our government would likely not change much (if at all) under the hypothetical party transformation.

I REALLY like that avatar of yours! I had a Short Earred Owl for an INDOOR(right wing crippled by scattergun injury) pet! Named him Barney even though he was not a barn owl. Enjoy the link!

I appreciate the compliment, but you have somehow misused the quote commands. You need to edit that post as follows:

Cut the top line that says: [ q u o t e = "jackflash, post: 25297812, member: 74258"]

Cut the very bottom line that says: [ / q u o t e ]

Cut the remaining bottom line that says [ / q u o t e ] and paste it just below the line that says: Moderators, please delete irrelevant replies.

Owls are my favorite birds of prey. I also also like Peregrine Falcons and Red Tailed Hawks. Owls are the best!

I'm glad you put the word 'hypothetical' in here.
Gun confiscation would trigger a civil war in our Country in an Acme second!
Our current system would not withstand it!!

Single issue parties? I don't think you have to worry about creating a party platform; you won't have any candidates who would get elected.

As a hypothetical, Gun ownership I suppose.

I don’t think it would trigger a civil war. But there would be a lot of dead confiscators. Very few gun owners that I know would tamely hand over their property. Some would, often because they would value safety over freedom. The problem the confiscators would have would be determining which category the gun owner they were approaching would fall into ahead for time.
