Fiscal Cliff? Tax the Rich

I still say a National Lottery. $1/week....taken off your paycheck. At the beginning of the year, when you fill out your 1040, you check a box as to whether you want to participate.

The winner is drawn randomly every week from the pool of people who checked the "yes" box. No rollovers....every week a winner. Let's say 100M people participate....$10 million to the winner, $90 Million goes directly to the debt..every week. That would be 46.8B every year without anyone getting hurt or taxed.....and it will make 52 new multi-millionaires every year.

Let's throw in a bonus.....that original $10M to the winner? Tax Free.....money earned off of that of course will be taxed.

Since lotteries notoriously affect the poor more than the rich, don't you think that is contrary to your original stance of attacking the rich? Also, it seems discriminatory since it is only open to those who file a tax return. What about illegals who don't file? What about hte elderly who don't file? You don't want them to play?

you would still get the entitlement whiners...

they dont have a job... so no pay check.. but still want to be in for the prize.

Good God....Does NO ONE want to think out of the box? OK....That'll be a MOTIVATION for people to go out and get a fucking job, right? If you're REALLY that worried about it....write it into the bylaws that people on Welfare aren't eligible.

1. Do you believe that Americans need to make sacrifices to fix our fiscal problems?

if your answer is 'yes'

2. Do you believe that the sacrifice should be shared?

if your answer is 'yes'

3. What should be the sacrifice of America's wealthy/high income earners, as their share?

Be specific.

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. I think the top 1% should pay 37% of the total federal income taxes paid.

Lotteries affect the poor disportionately because they spend more than they can afford....in this situation....there is a cap of $1/week.

What elderly doesn't file? My step parents are both retired and in their 70's....they file every year.

Illegals? REALLY, you fucking nutbag?

False choice. The wealthy already pay more than their fair share, as illustrated above.

Okay, that's one vote for the wealthy being exempted from the national sacrifice that needs to be made.

Question to you specifically:

What are you willing to sacrifice, since you accepted the premise that we need shared sacrifice (even though you exempt the Rich) as your share?

So....then the rich should be exempt? got it.

Nevermind - you are obviously lost in Kool Aid land.
See folks? - this is how all the same rats were voted in again despite record low approval ratings. There are just way to many kool aid drinkers on both sides that can't get beyond bullshit rhetorical mind candy for anything to change.
Thus - we are doomed to status quo.

what you are talking is still a widows mite.

you tax everyone 20%.....and everyone is bleeding the same.

Everyone is.bleeding the same? riiiiight. Poor little rich boy gets a 15% cut and goes out and buys a new yacht or summer home in Curacao.....and the poor get to decide between food and medication, or electricity.....

15% of skin is 15% of skin.

what you are saying is your are jealous that others have more then you do.

No....what I am saying is that I don't want people to STARVE in this country because of people like you.

EDIT: My wife in I are in the top 10%....we aren't the ones struggling. Stop making this personal you fucking bitch.

But what if those on welfare had a job and the welfare is recent? Say they were already in on the lottery. Do you excuse them now because they don't fit your criteria? Do we exclude only some types of welfare and not others? Did you think this through at all or are you leaving all of the heavy thinking to others?

what do you think the so called people you all label "poor" should sacrifice as their fair share?

Okay, that's 2 votes for exempting the Rich from the shared national sacrifice that needs to be made.

Anyone else?

Question for you, Stephanie:

What do you believe you should sacrifice, as your share of the sacrifices needed to be made?

Good thing you're not envious or covetous, or anything like that.

Fuck you too. If you don't have a problem with the poor starving and homeless....fuck....that's on you. Not me.

I believe the irony of your post is lost on you.

The Wealthy will always be with us, and wealthy they will always be.

the concern showed for them by right wingers would be hilarious if it were not for the fact that most of the right wingers I've met here and elsewhere are riding steerage on the Good Ship Wingnut while their masters and mouthpieces are jumping ship on immigration and other issues.

You don't think the CUTS are going to affect people? That's what you guys don't seem to get...the rich won't be affected by cuts....it'll be everyday people. the wealthy does not need or use the services....we do.

What the GOP is clamoring for is for everyday people to bear the entire burden, and the wealthy to skip and frolic away unscathed.......AGAIN.

The rich pay their highest share of the Federal income tax burden EVER, you stupid, partisan fuck.

And the ultra rich control more of the nations wealth and income than they have in almost forever combined with some of the lowest tax rates and the most favorable tax write offs ever. And they have been doing great for 8 years. The reason their tax share is so high, (pay attention stupid,) is that they are making so much fuking money and controlling so much wealth. God you are stupid. Are you really a Koch sucker?

So who the fuking else you gonna get money from you stupid partisan fuk? Poor people?

That rather silly rant does mean that an overhaul of the tax code should be done by Congress but that would require Obama to exercise some leadership. He would have to actually talk to the leadership in the House and Senate and use the power of persuasion. That ain't gonna happen with this arrogant asshole. All he does is talk AT them.

Getting rid of you sacred socialistic welfare state does not automatically translate to the sainted pooooooooor starving in the gutter.

But thanks for the meltdown to try and distract from your shameless avarice and greed.

I believe they would be sacrificing 37% of their income to the Federal government. See #3. LOL

tax the fuck outta the mother fucking rich, they deserve it for being rich, no matter what the fuck else we do in AMerica we must get RE VE NG E on the motherfucking rich for being successful. Now get busy.

Obama again has the olive branch reached out to the GOP asking congress to bring a bill to his desk that he can sign right away to extend the Bush tax cuts to those that need it the most, the middle class, so no games can be played to raise the taxes on 98% of americans.

This will be the first step to see if the GOP has gotten their heads out of their asses and will to do the right thing by agreeing that the middle class needs these cuts the most and should be taken off the table.

Or will the GOP show again they are nothing but a bunch of america hating thugs that will continue to hold the middle class hostage to protect the richest of the rich.
