Pal, I see the front and rear brake disks are on opposite sides.
Is that due to design (appearance) or engineering (physics)? Both? Just curious.

Well, Harley big twins have a direct drive transmission, which is the most efficient tranmission there is for tranmitting crank power to the wheel, because the input and output are on the same shaft, and that as you can see is on the left side. So the rear brake pretty much has to be on the right.

The front, well, that really could be on either side. But the valve stem on Harley's is always on the right side, so I guess for ease of access to that, they put the disc on the left, when there's one front disc.

Triumph started building motorcyles in 1883. Even before Harley Davidson. But never in all that time have they ever built a big V-twin, nor did they ever build a bike that was red, white and blue. Triumph's are British built. Also, Harley Davidson now holds the record in AHDRA and NHRA for the fastest drag bike ever. Harley does not however have a "sport bike". That's just never been their style. So with all due respect, your friends don't know much about Harley's, or Triumph's for that matter.
