SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah high school athletics association secretly investigated a female athlete — without telling her or her parents — after receiving complaints from the parents of two girls she had defeated in competition questioning whether the girl was transgender.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday that the Utah High School Activities Association and the girl’s high school determined she indeed was female after poring through her school records dating back to kindergarten.

Association spokesman David Spatafore told lawmakers that the girl and her family weren’t told of the investigation to spare them embarrassment and “to keep the matter private,” the Tribune reported.

The revelation came as at least 12 Republican-led states — including Utah — have passed laws banning transgender women or girls in sports. Supporters of the bans say transgender girls have an unfair advantage because they were born as stronger males and could deny girls places on sports teams.

They "say" that, huh? How about fairly reporting that they absolutely do have an unfair advantage proven by science.

I'm glad that this young woman athlete has so far had her identify protected from publication. But sooner or later this will happen again (likely sooner), and sooner or later a young woman will be embarrassed by having it be known that she was suspected of being male and was investigated. Apparently, liberals think teen girls are not nearly insecure enough, so they are desperately searching for more ways to reduce their self-esteem.

This was entirely predictable. Just as the existence of Affirmative Action makes suspect the achievements of people of color, not matter how talented and hardworking they are, the transwomen in female sports movement will make people wonder every time a tomboy, or a well-muscled girl crosses the finish line ahead of her sister athletes.

Liberals, I implore you! Leave the kids and the young female athletes out of your insanity.

Dontcha just love conservatives?

It is not just trannies who should be excluded from competitive sports, but those who take enhancing hormones, or even those who just have a condition that accidentally produces inappropriate hormone levels.

What's an appropriate amount? Should the high school kid that grows to 6'8 be excluded from the basketball team just because of how he was born?

They only went back to the athlete's records from first grade, they didn't go back to the birth certificate for verification.

I agree with both of you on that. But it shouldn't be a matter of parents complaining about what they perceive as an athlete they feel may be biologically male. All athletes should be tested for compliance with the laws and rules governing their sports.

It is sad that adults want to cheat and game the system, in the matter children and high school sports. But that is the reality.

BTW, it turns out that this story was four days ago. Meanwhile two days ago, a Judge in Utah paused the ban on transgender athletes, leaving in place a fallback plan in which a panel looks at each trans athlete to decide if they have an unfair advantage.

Instead of an outright ban, transgender girls will now go before a state commission of political appointees who will determine on a case-by-case basis if they are eligible to participate. Utah’s Republican lawmakers created the commission in a law passed earlier this as a fallback plan to be implemented in case of an injunction against the law.

Under terms of the law, the panel will be allowed to ask for and assess the child’s height and weight in making decisions, about whether a transgender girl would have an unfair advantage. The commission, which is set to be convened in the coming weeks, will include a medical data statistician, a physician with experience about gender identity healthcare, a sports physiologist, mental health professional, collegiate athletic trainer, representative of an athletic association and a rotating member who is a coach or official in the sport relevant to each case.

Yeah. That'll be a gol-danged circus.

These poor kids, being used by the Adult wokesters to get even with talented athletes for the wokesters as kids being cut from the team, or just too chicken to even try out.

No, because that kid (nor his parents) did not deliberately try to cheat the system, he just grew tall naturally.

I would love if they had a basketball team at each school for kids under the average height. At my junior high, which is more than ninety-five percent Hispanic, out kids are at a huge disadvantage. They try hard, and they can dribble pass and shoot. But the white kids in other district schools have an advantage in wingspan that beats them every time.

Of course, if the liberal method is followed, a tall kid who has little talent can join under-height team by "identifying" as short.
