Being from Louisiana originally and having sat out a few hurricanes(threw frisbee with my brother in the eye of one of them), I watched as Katrina progressed towards N'Orleans. I can't believe anyone would have been stupid enough to stay, all should have known better. The television and radio was no doubt blaring non stop to get the fuck out. That imbecile Mayor totally dropped the ball and the Governor made it worse. I watched and was amazed at how lucky NO was when Katrina turned east at the last second, she could have gone right up the Mississippi and stayed over Pontchartrain for an extended time but didn't. They were extremely lucky because that might have made the difference that would have meant the levees on the River would have failed and if that would have happened there wouldn't have been anything left. A mile wide, fast moving body of water would have destroyed everything in it's path.

I remember that all too well, you had the mayor telling everyone not to evacuate, then the governor telling everyone to evacuate, then you had the mayor telling everyone to evacuate, then you had the governor telling everyone not to evacuate, and there in the wide open parking lot stood thousands of buses for the evacuation and not a one of them ever even got started up.
