What would a totalitarian government do to/with the interet?

And.....why?

" One of the biggest enemies to collectivists everywhere is the free flow of information. Totalitarians have always sought to control the media and use it to disseminate it's propaganda. The mainstream media in America is already owned and controlled by collectivists, but what's new for them is the flow of information over the Internet. Their real concern is not pornography or terrorism as they claim, but the free flow of information that exposes their agendas. " Socialists in the House: the Progressive Caucus

Why is the internet a threat to the Left?

The obvious reason is that it allows the truth, i.e., the opposite of the Left's propaganda to get out...and maybe influence citizens who think for themselves.
That's the idea behind the Obama administration's IRS strategy, the stultification of the conservative groups to reduce their influence in the election. Recall, after the 2010 elections, Obama said he took a 'shellacking.'

But there is a darker motivation.....shut down the internet, or allow only what the collective wants on it, and one can reduce the organizing power of the internet: it would block resistance if the administration did something......unthinkable.

10. " Internet 'Kill Switch' Would Give President Power To Shut Down The Web: A new Senate bill, sponsored by Senator Joseph Lieberman, proposes to give the president the authority "to seize control of or even shut down portions of the Internet," according to CNET.

The authority granted to the government in the bill, known as the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act (PCNAA), has been likened to an Internet "kill switch.".... It would also see the creation of a new agency within the Department of Homeland Security, the National Center for Cybersecurity and Communications (NCCC)..... Numerous groups, such as TechAmerica, have criticized the bill, warning of the "potential for absolute power"
Internet 'Kill Switch' Would Give President Power To Shut Down The Web

a. So....what happened to the bill? Seems to have disappeared....or did it.
The ol' 'Three Card Monty'..

"A privacy rights group has brought a lawsuit to gain more detailed information on the federal government’s ability to shut off the internet in the event of a national crisis.... lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, in response to a failure by the agency to release any documents pertaining to the “Emergency Wireless Protocols,” (Standard Operating Procedure 303 or “SOP 303″)..... The issue is directly related to the much feared Obama Internet ‘kill switch’, a tangible government policy that was eventually purportedly dropped from cybersecurity legislation making its way through the Congress....

b. " A comprehensive cybersecurity bill introduced Tuesday abandons proposals that would give the president emergency powers over the nation's networks..... The Obama administration has indicated it already has the authority to intervene in the event of a major attack on the nation's networks, pointing to a little-known provision in Communications Act passed a month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941." Emergency powers for president dropped from cybersecurity bill | TheHill

c. Earlier this month, Obama secretly signed an executive order on Cyber Security, then issued an embargo to all news organisations NOT to cover the developments. "... the White House emailed reporters that President Obama had signed a highly anticipated Executive Order aimed at protecting cyber security.

The order — setting up new programs aimed at stopping online espionage and terrorism — was already the law of the land, signed by the president. But it was also secret." The Executive Order The Press Agreed To Keep Secret For Five Hours

d. " In recent days Janet Napolitano has described cybersecurity as a “core mission area” for the DHS. The federal agency was intimately involved in drawing up the Obama cybersecurity executive order."

But....how can we not honor the good intentions of Barack Obama....?

Our President wouldn't lie to our nation......would he?

Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest,
(For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all; all honourable men)
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral ...
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man….

11. And the President can take control of the internet, for as long as he likes, under the National Emergencies Act.

"Three days after the 9/11 attacks...the President of the United States declared a national state of emergency. Over a decade later it's still in effect.....the President is only required to inform [Congress] of his decision....every two years."
From the novel "Black List," Brad Thor.

Here are the details:

a. The National Emergencies Act (Pub.L. 94–412, 90 Stat. 1255, enacted September 14, 1976, codified at 50 U.S.C. § 1601-1651) is a United States federal law passed to stop open-ended states of national emergency ... The perceived need for the law arose from the scope and number of laws granting special powers to the executive in times of national emergency (or public danger). At least two constitutional rights are subject to revocation during a state of emergency:
• The right of habeas corpus, under Article 1, Section 9;
• The right to a grand jury for members of the National Guard when in actual service, under Fifth Amendment. National Emergencies Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No need to worry about it until this executive.....

And this:

b. H. Rep. No. 95-459, at 7 (1977) "[the TWEA] has become essentially an unlimited grant of authority for the President to exercise, at his discretion, broad powers in both the domestic and international economic arena, without congressional review. These powers may be exercised so long as there is an unterminated declaration of national emergency on the books, whether or not the situation with respect to which the emergency was declared bears any relationship to the situation with respect to which the President is using the authorities"

12. Pay special attention to " The right to a grand jury for members of the National Guard when in actual service, under Fifth Amendment" and consider its import. (11a. above)

"When would citizens in the National Guard wish to use civilian courts, rather than military tribunals? Well....when do charges normally get brought against a member of the military?
....When they refuse to obey an order
...If National Guard troops refuse to carry out actions against their fellow countrymen." Thor, Op.Cit.

13. So, the President has the power to silence the greatest notifying and organizing tool the world has ever seen....the internet.

And he can do so whenever he decides we, the citizenry, require such protection.

Against whom, or what, is this administration ready to 'protect' us?

Take a look....they've said who the enemy is........

What would a totalitarian government do to/with the interet?

For starters what is the "interet" and what does it have to do with a mythical "totalitarian government"?

Summarize it in three sentences....will ya?

I just need one for ya'.....

You, being allowed out of the 'nervous hospital,' is as clear as why Kim Kardashian is on television more often than Elmo.

As for the OP.....it's way over your head.

If you had a point to make....you would do it

I did....but you'd have to have an adult mentality to understand it.
Don't be upset....
..... I've read your posts...and fully acknowledge that you are one of the most beloved entertainers of our generation!

Now, head on back to the 24-hour All Cartoon Network.....do they allow that in the hospital?

Do you mean not many comments?

First...all of my posts are about things in which I am interested.

Second....the post is so well documented that you Lefties can't find anything to argue with....

Well....I did think I gave you guys a bit to argue with....the suggestion that the totalitarians see most Americans as their target....

...yet none of you disagreed.

Interesting?

1. Why is it that the greatest concern for Leftists is that an opposing voice might be heard?
What the heck are you guys afraid of?

2. It seems that I'm always teaching you one thing or another....in this case that the column labeled 'views' is how many folks read the thread.....

so..."nobody bothers to read" seems not to be the case.

Gee....what a shock to find you in error again.
