Describing God

1. Ineluctably, political discussions touch on some relationship to God…as in:

"It is a great irony of communism that those who did not believe in God believed that godlike knowledge could be concentrated at a central point. It was believed that government could be omnipotent and omniscient. And in order to justify the idea that all lives should be determined by a single plan, the concomitant tendency of communist regimes was to deify the leader- whether Lenin, Stalin, Mao, or Kim Il-sung."
Tom Bethell, "The Noblest Triumph," p. 144

But, do Stalin, or Mao, or even the one Liberals called God, Obama, have the necessary defining characteristics?

2. Looking up the definition… “the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe”
Definition of GOD

But that’s not enough.

“An ancient proverb teaches, “To spare the ravening leopard is an act of injustice to the sheep.” That is why the Rabbis spoke of mercy and justice as the two necessary attributes of God—and therefore of a decent society.”
Dennis Prager

And I found this on the board:

“Omnipotence means all-powerful. Monotheistic theologians regard God as having supreme power. This means God can do what he wants. It means he is not subject to physical limitations like man is. Being omnipotent, God has power over wind, water, gravity, physics, etc. God's power is infinite, or limitless."

Still not enough for what is generally accepted as that definition.

Cave Cave Deus Videt ("Beware, Beware, God Sees"). Hieronymus Bosch, in the painting 'The Seven Deadly Sins'

"The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things" is a painting that has traditionally been attributed to Hieronymus Bosch, …
Four small circles, detailing the four last things — "Death of the Sinner", "Judgment", "Hell" and "Glory" — surround a larger circle in which the seven deadly sins are depicted: wrath at the bottom, then (proceeding clockwise) envy, greed, gluttony, sloth, extravagance (later replaced with lust), and pride, in scenes from life rather than in allegorical representations of the sins.
At the centre of the large circle, which is said to represent the eye of God, is a "pupil" in which Christ can be seen emerging from his tomb. Below this image is the Latin inscription Cave Cave Deus Videt ("Beware, Beware, God Sees").”

All-seeing is an essential element in the definition of God, as it reminds believers that what they do, good or evil, will not go unnoticed.

But….there is more….

God is whatever you make him/her up to be.

Well, all religions say basically the same thing................there is a Creator, that what we do in this life affects what happens next, there is something better and something worse, based on how we live this life.

All have some kind of Golden Rule in them.

Me? I think of God as some large multifaceted being, and each religion is a reflection of just one of His facets.

"I think of God as some large multifaceted being, and each religion is a reflection of just one of His facets."

When it pertains to Islam, I couldn't agree more.

The concept of "God" is for those who must see the creator in human form. Humanity really went astray when it forced that perceptual reality upon the tribes of Europe and elsewhere.

…everything—with the exception of God—has a beginning. Prior to God’s creating, there was nothing.
This is an argument from ignorance. Since we don't know what came before the Big Bang we can't know if the universe/spacetime was created from nothing at that time or if it pre-existed the Big Bang and just change its form at that time and we can't see past the Big Bang to see what that form was. If we see a puddle of water we can't know if that puddle resulted from the melting of ice or the fall of rain.

God is whatever you make him/her up to be.
Good luck on that. He explains it in that book some refer to as a "fairy tale"
His return will be called " OH FUCK: it's true"

11. Now....about those two gifts God bestowed on mankind, free will, and intelligence.....

The first time I was in the Sistine Chapel, the ceiling was.....needing a cleaning, and the cape behind God was difficult to make out.

The next time, after the ceiling had been cleaned, something dramatic became evident.....

Michel.sistine.psych.gif

The Brain on the sistine Chapel Ceiling

Michelangelo painted it as a human cerebrum.....

It is a blessing God had given mankind.

On the other hand, Oscar Wilde put it this way: "There is no sin except stupidity."

So.....we don't know what the was before the Big Bang, but we know it wasn't nothing???

Gads, you're an imbecile.

An imbecile...and a perfect example of what government school turns out.

Mathematician Amir Aczel, in an interview with Nobel laureate physicist Steven Weinberg, in 2010, was asked, for a Scientific American article (November 2010), "How was the Big Bang caused, and what happened before it?"

Weinberg: "This we don't know, and have no way of knowing.." Aczel: This convinces me that science cannot disprove a 'creator.'
Aczel, "Why Science Does Not Disprove God."

“So long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator.” Steven Hawking, “A Brief History of Time,” p. 140-41.

So…the new idea in physics, the Big Bang, suggests an old idea in thought: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

The OP began with a note about Communism…

12. God, and religion, is a particular focus of political thought. The act is, that the political views of Rousseau, Hegel, and Marx view religion diametrically opposed to that of America’s Founders.
The first three see no reason for the Judeo-Christian faith of the Founders.

To put it another way, the former thinkers are not opposed to any religion….they mean to advance their own religion….man-centered, not those that are God-centered.

Whittaker Chambers, communist spy turned anti-communist, makes that clear:

“It [Communism] is not new. It is, in fact, man's second oldest faith. Its promise was whispered in the first days of the Creation under the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: "Ye shall be as gods." It is the great alternative faith of mankind. Like all great faiths, its force derives from a simple vision. Other ages have had great visions. They have always been different versions of the same vision: the vision of God and man's relationship to God. The Communist vision is the vision of Man without God.
It is the vision of man's mind displacing God as the creative intelligence of the world.”
Whittaker Chambers, Witness

David Mamet provides the believer’s response to Leftism:

“The Left says of the Right, “You fools, it is demonstrable that dinosaurs lived one hundred million years ago, I can prove it to you, how can you say the earth was created in 4000 BCE?” But this supposed intransigence on the part of the Religious Right is far less detrimental to the health of the body politic than the Left’s love affair with Marxism, Socialism, Racialism, the Command Economy, all of which have been proven via one hundred years of evidence shows only shortages, despotism and murder.”

How can the Left deny his point?

I know English reading comprehension is not your strong suit, by design or not, but you need to reread what I wrote. "Can't know" mean just that we don't know either way.

What school did you attend again, I forgot.

In other words, the lies of the Religious Right are better than the lies of the Left. Maybe it is time for true and rationality?

Real thoughtful was he, he caused a flood because all people and animals were too corrupt and he gave Babylon and Romans the resources to desolate the Jewish Temple because the Jews were idolizing other gods and debased themselves with all kinds of wicked acts , and you call that thoughtful, all according to the scripture. And then God allowed his son to be crucified according to scipture, and God is thoughtful, after he raped a virgin girl engaged to a man!

How thoughtful.

That's the worst post I've read in a very long time. Beyond ignorant and as hateful as it gets.

Your side slaughtered over 100 million human beings and put twice that number in chains.

Mamet is correct.

Please go away.

So you agree with Mamet, the lies of the Religious Right are better than the lies of the Left. This may be a totally foreign concept to a Trump supporter but I don't like being lied to by anybody.

In terms of grammar and syntax, it's far better than most of penny's
posts. Did you actually expect content?

I think you need glasses, I already said your post was beyond ignorant, but if you still need it spelled out for you, no, your post was a cesspool of lies or misleading statements. And some of it (like your last statement) is easy to show false, because it directly contradicts scripture. But I get the feeling that you cannot be reasoned with. An exorcism might be more apropos.

I will pray for you!
