"LGBTQ Republicans say they feel misled by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) after the GOP presidential hopeful’s “war room” shared a bizarre video widely seen as inflammatory. The video bashed former President Donald Trump’s (R) support for the LGBTQ community and leaned into conservative state policies passed under DeSantis this year that were anti-LGBTQ. LGBTQ conservatives, reacting to the video, said DeSantis had shown his true colors as an “anti-LGBT champion,” undermining his arguments that his support for the policies were about protecting children and parents’ rights. “It’s like he’s going mask off,” said Brad Polumbo, a Michigan-based libertarian journalist. “The cat’s out of the bag.” Polumbo said he’d have considered voting for DeSantis at one time.

The ad features footage of Trump at the Republican National Convention in 2016 saying he would “do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens.” The ad also features old clips of Trump saying he would be OK with transgender women competing in the Miss Universe pageant, and he would be comfortable with Caitlyn Jenner,
the former Olympic decathlete who came out as transgender in 2015, using the restroom of her choice at Trump Tower. The ad also features images of shirtless men and several celebrities, including actor Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman - Jennifer Williams, a Republican who in January became the first transgender woman elected to a municipal council in New Jersey said she’s been disappointed by the extreme and harmful rhetoric surrounding LGBTQ issues — and transgender issues, in particular — coming from DeSantis and other GOP 2024 frontrunners, including Trump. “None of those are major issues they’re discussing,” Williams added. “They’re worried about what’s in someone’s pants, and how someone wants to be happy in their life. And I have to ask, how American is that? And how Republican is that?”

By the way, this is the ad that has the fags so triggered...Also, try to ignore how gay this ad is, with images of oiled up men and DeSantis comparing himself to Achilles; who was um.....very gay.....so even when DeSantis is trying to come off as macho and anti gay, he still failed....anyhoo....

These log-cabin republican types are so triggered because they think these new slate of anti-LGBTQ policies may affect them; get over it queers. You know that these policies are only meant to target tranny pedos - well, not really, that is just the cover.....it is really designed to give red-meat to the base and get them excited to come out and vote on a platform of mainly manufactured grievances and no real polices...Kinda like how you log-cabin fags were ok with the red-meat issue being gay marriage; because you were ok with that being targeted...and ironically, that was also about "protecting children"...but since yall lost that battle, tranny-pedo panic is the new red meat issue...This isn't new, so why are they acting so triggered??

These policies are only intended to affect people who are already at the margins, not those with power and influence; so all of this whining about these anti-trans policies is dumb...Now you have fags like George Santos coming about against Ronnie, Log Cabin Republicans have come out against him..furthermore, this ad in my opinion actually hurts DeSantis, not helps him....Yea, he thinks most Republican voters hate fags in general, but what he doesn't understand is that overtly hating gays is no longer in style...the fags overwhelmingly won that battle -- now even among Republicans, there isn't this desire to blatantly hate fags, that is what trannies are for...Most republicans now replaced their desire to hate gays in general with hating trannies specifically - this just shows how out of touch DeSantis is with his own base. Trumpers know when Trump says he supports LGBTQ people, that really means, he hates a certain type of fag, not all of them. This ad helps Trump, not hurt him. So when you see these gay Republicans clutching their pearls over this ad, but not the ANTI-LGBTQ policies passed by DeSantis -- then you should know this is all performative outrage to make Trump look better and DeSantis worse.

Sane people pay him no attention and haven't since his kidnapping aliens in Texas for his relocation bus stunt.

This ad hurts him......but the policies are still pretty cool tho.....with Conservative voters..

DeSantis is going to have to accept the reality that -- trying to be a dick doesn't work if you still come off as someone who likes dick more...

He should just go back to being Governor, while they will have him.

He will be fine......as many others have said, he should have waited until 2028

He was stupid to think the base he is trying to appeal to would abandon Trump - this will not happen as long as the base sees Trump as the ultimate holder of power....

This is like when folks were wondering if voters would ever abandon Bush....yes, they did...as soon as it was clear he was not the ultimate holder of power anymore......

And for the moderate Republicans who think a Tim Scott or some other moderate will be the future holder of power...you are in a fantasy world...the next person to hold power in the GOP will be expected to be as depraved, trollish and cruel as the previous guy.....not a single "moderate" Republican for the last 30 years is someone the GOP base gives a fuck about now...

Why do you hate immigrants?
I don't. I don't like illegal immigrants or the employers that hire them, keeping them coming for the jobs. At the same time, I think it has been time for immigration reform, since Reagan started kicking the can down the road, back in the 80s. It is just a third rail issue, no matter what is done, both side profiting on, as well as private business, and political campaign donations.

I hope the people whining about TRUMP supporters not voting for DeSantis if he gets the nomination are paying attention. Regardless on if you agree with Ron! on shooting Mexicans at the boarder or whatever his policy on the gays is, you have to be honest and acknowledge the MSM ignoring both positions is planned. The uniparty can't risk any negative press against DeSantis falling poll numbers, because much like Jeb!, Ron! is the chosen one.

Are you telling me that the majority of Republican voters would have a problem with shooting Mexicans at the border?

It wasn't that long ago that you folks were gung-ho for shooting Mexicans at the border, also let's not forget, the moats with the alligators too.....

"The president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him."

The mistake DeSantis made is believing he was in a position to get away with the batshit ideas that Trump often blurted out.....It isn't that Republican voters disagree with the ideas, since that is clearly not the case -- it is, they disagree with DeSantis being the one to do it....

Who the hell is Brooke Migdon? The op-ed is all over the place quoting some Mich. libertarian and goofy George Santos of NY but not much about Florida's alleged gay conservatives. It's much ado about nothing and just another cheap desperate attempt by lefties to split the republican party.

Not just Santos, not just a gay libertarian, but the Log Cabin Republicans; as well as many people who endorsed Ron and now are taking away that endorsement....

These aren't leftists......the ad just sucks and the Trump campaign is having a field day with it....

One of his former Republican endorsers who removed her support sums it up perfectly...

"His anti-gay rhetoric and actions are not only deeply hurtful to LGBTQ+ Americans like myself but also tarnish the image of the conservative movement. As a lifelong conservative, I believe in the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and individual liberties. Yet, DeSantis’ approach to LGBTQ+ issues goes against these very principles. By excluding LGBTQ+ conservatives and attacking their rights, DeSantis alienates a significant portion of his potential base, effectively driving away voters who share many of his other conservative beliefs. It is disheartening to witness a candidate who could have been a uniting force within the party instead contributing to further divisiveness."

What she is really saying is that Trump when he decides to push the anti-LGBTQ shit at the right time, can get away with it...because Trump is basically a political etch and sketch....he can hold different positions simultaneously and his voters will not care.....DeSantis, not so much...

Stop voting for politicians who set up "sanctuary" cities and states to lure illegals into human trafficking and slavery.

Or voting for those who hired illegals themselves in their own businesses and then pardon CEO's who were sent to prison for hiring illegals...

It's almost like going after the main source of illegal immigration, the employers, is just shit Trumpers don't really care about ...I guess because it is easier to demonize those dirty brown people more than the people who hires them...

"Michael Santiago/Getty"? Give me a break. It's an old yellow journalism trick to find some jerk and pretend he represents some political agenda. Notice that Migdon doesn't go near the alternative to DeSantis like Trump or Biden. Who are these alleged gay conservatives going to support? A doddering old fool or maybe Trump. That's a real can 'o worms that the left wing "Hill" doesn't want to open.

Too much attention being paid to a miniscule part of the population

If they'd leave children alone they'd be left alone

God sent Trump to save America. FACT !!

Why do you call them "alleged gay conservatives" ??

Because they think his ad sucks?

And one of those "alleged gay conservatives" you folks gladly cheerlead for back when he was exposed for blatantly lying his way into Congress

It's almost like your support for that guy was "alleged support" but in reality, just you being full of shit....as usual...

Conservatism is based on lies.

Too much attention being paid to a miniscule part of the population

If they'd leave children alone they'd be left alone
900 bills have been passed by republican legislators to focus on this "minuscule population" -- more than they have ever focused on inflation, job creation, healthcare, etc, etc....

And none of those legislators give a fuck about "protecting children" since they only target gay people....even when they themselves are getting locked up left and right for ACTUAL CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT

But as I said before.......before trans people.....the same tactics were being used on GAYS in general..and they claimed that was "protecting children" too...is this why you folks hate people who have a memory??

"Bill Clinton had in 1997 nominated James C. Hormel as ambassador to Luxembourg. But his nomination as the first openly gay U.S. ambassador stalled the following summer. Senator Jesse Helms, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman well known for his public opposition to the "homosexual lifestyle" and the people he called, in Newsweek in 1994, "degenerates" and "weak, morally sick wretches," vowed to block the appointment. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi on June 15, 1998, added fuel to the fire, comparing being gay to a condition "just like alcohol...or sex addiction...or kleptomania'' -- a pathology in need of treatment."

They were not talking about "trans people" they were talking about gay people....period...and using all of the same talking points that you folks are using now.....why do yall pretend that after all of that bullshit you said about gay people, now that is all under the bridge? When the truth is, yall just lost that battle....own it....
