In a Republic, actually
‘Florida Republicans might be backing off support for Gov. Ron DeSantis' notorious book bans after being caught off-guard by national backlash, according to a report. Florida has become infamous as the epicenter of book censorship activism in schools, even as DeSantis has insisted the whole thing is a liberal "hoax" to make his state look bad. But the state's Republican legislature is starting to worry the action has gone too far, reported Politico, with lawmakers considering new rules to limit how many challenges can be brought.

Legislators "introduced a new idea to curb frivolous challenges to books" this month, which is "one of the first admissions the law, which tightened scrutiny around books with sexual content in K-12 schools, may have gone too far. The potential solution: allowing local schools to charge some people a $100 fee if they want to object to more than five books."’

Trying to ‘fix’ bad policy with more bad policy.

The problem is that Republicans are backtracking not because the book bans are reckless government excess and overreach but because they’ve become a political liability.

As with most Leftist "issues," there are no "book bans." There is not a single book available in the English speaking world that one cannot access in Florida. Even if you are a school child.

It's all semantics.

If he had announced that he would "curate" books in children's libraries in Florida, it would not have raised a single eyebrow. The Left immediately called his program a "book ban" and their hair figuratively, spontaneously ignited.

The Left is evil.

In Florida, books can talk about killing someone but you can’t talk about two people making love.
God forbid you have a homosexual character

Why are you talking to little kids about people making love? What kind of weirdo shit are you up to? :cuckoo:

Do you really believe that all books are appropriate for kids in public schools?

We can have a debate about what is appropriate or inappropriate books in public schools, but if you believe that absolutely no books should be off limits, then you are plain wrong.

When I was in school the worst book we had in the library was "There's a boy in the girls bathroom!"

But at least he was a normal boy, dressed as a boy who ended up in there by accident. Not a trans adult man in a dress looking to molest little girls.

"Plain wrong" is a wild understatement. Youd have to be an idiot and a lecherous creten to think that all books should be allowed in elementary schools

I suppose that if DeSantis is running for president he might care what voters nationwide think they know about bookbans

But otherwise who cares?

All we have to do is segregate or partition each school to what the parent wants for the child. We will have curriculums that each grouping wants. So if one group wants English, Science, Mathematics and traditional ways that will be for them. Others want curriculums teaching the old areas where they came from that will be for them. Others want to teach anything sexual that will be for them. After about a decade we will see a real reset of what priorities will be or having a good life through curriculum choice.

What books were banned?

Name one and I'll bet you can obtain one... just not available to children in libraries
