The party that Jefferson founded was called the Democratic Republican party.
If you have a primary source from the 18th Century to corroborate that I will pay you $10,000. Bet??

Some news reports say the payments were to silence a man he had sexual relations with while a coach at a high school. WOW! INCREDIBLE IF TRUE!
Sheer speculation until we see some evidence.

The Feds have confirmed sexual abuse of a male.

Ex-House Speaker Dennis Hastert paid to conceal sexual misconduct sources

Indicted former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was paying an individual from his past to conceal sexual misconduct, two federal law enforcement officials said Friday.

One of the officials, who would not speak publicly about the federal charges in Chicago, said "Individual A," as the person is described in Thursday's federal indictment, was male and that the alleged misconduct was unrelated to Hastert's tenure in Congress.

The actions date to Hastert's time as a Yorkville, Ill., high school wrestling coach and teacher, the official said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asked why Hastert was making the payments, the official said it was to conceal Hastert's past relationship with the male. "It was sex,'" the source said. The other official, when asked if the misconduct was sexual abuse, said, "That's correct".

Whoop dere it is!

Jefferson founded the Republican Party in 1793
:laugh2:

That's an oops. The republican party was founded from the ashes of the Whig Party in the years leading up to the Civil War. The party that Jefferson founded was called the Democratic Republican party. And has no direct connection to the modern GOP.

Yep, Dimocrat/Republicans. The first bi-party.
Jefferson was an openly bi-partisan.

Jefferson founded Party in 1793 to support freedom from big liberal govt. When he won he called he called it the second American Revolution.

Jefferson and others formed the Democratic-Republican Party to oppose the Federalists.

After the 1824 election, the party split into the Democratic Party (centered around Andrew Jackson) and the National Republican Party. The National Republican Party dissolved after the 1832 election.

Since the Democratic Party is still around, it is more accurate to say Jefferson founded the Democratic Party, not the Republican Party.

In 1833, the Whig party formed from some of the ashes of the National Republican Party, along with some Federalists (Jefferson opposed the Federalists, remember), and some people who had fallen out with the Jacksonian Democrats.

The Whigs managed to get two guys elected President, both of whom died in office. Son of a...BITCH!

The Whigs imploded over the question of the expansion of slavery. Some for, some against. From its anti-slavery ashes arose the modern day Republican Party in...1854.

Get. Ready. 4. Nitpicking!

The modern GOP has no direct connection to the party that Jefferson founded. However, the term 'Democratic Republican party' is more modern parlance to distinguish the "Jeffersonian Republicans' from the modern GOP. They called themselves simply 'Republicans'. The party fell apart and from its ashes came the Democratic Party.
