Democrats Protected AIG Bonuses

I understand. So who are you going to vote for in 2012? Mitt? :cuckoo: He was a CEO.

Not only will he give bonus', he will defend giving them bonus'.

At least Obama is afraid of the public backlash of all this.

Bush would have came on tv and said, "you may not like my decisions, but at least you got to give me credit for making the hard decisions, right or wrong".

I used to hate it when he said that.

So let us see if we can get the Dems to do a 180.

Bush and the GOP never cared. The only things we stopped them from doing when we complained was selling the ports to Dubai and addressing the border problem. And they did a piss poor job on the border bill. It cost billions and still illegals are coming over.

And now they act like the illegal employer problem is a necessary evil. This will be the next hot topic you guys blame on the Dems. I heard yesterday that the dems want the IRS to tax illegals, and not turn over their records to the justice department for deportation, because this way, at least we get some taxes from them.

So I guess the American people have forgotten that we were outraged over this issue last year.

So illegal immigration is another issue where I'll agree with you that the Dems are catering to the corporations and hispanics too that want to continue the illegal employer problem we have.

But are they as bad as the GOP? No way. Bush actually wanted to let mexican truckers come into the US. That would have been another American industry he ruined/outsourced. Trucking.

Maybe that public outrage was needed to effect the changes that really need to be done.

Think about the noise about "socialism" that was being made just a couple of weeks ago.

Now who really did remove the bonus restrictions from the last round of money given them?

No one seems to want to say.

The fact is something IS going to be done about it and the Rs under Bush were not too keen on any restrictions.

So now you know who's running for president in 2012? Your psychic abilities are amazing. Do tell.

I hear what you guys are saying. What is the point you are trying to make?

Why won't you admit in writing that corporations are a big part of whats wrong with America right now?

It isn't the politicians alone. The politicians have been paid off, by corporations. Thus, the corporations are the problem. Or the corporations getting too cozy with our politicians.

And you republicans who suggest that dems are more corrupt than the GOP because in the last few years we have gotten more money from them, go back and see who was getting all the money in 2001-2006. It was the GOP.

And then go back and look at all the pork the GOP spent. Why weren't you outraged back then?

So don't wonder why we don't listen to your cries now.

:clap2:

Yea. If Obama does take back the bonus', it'll prove Democratic democracy is working.

It certainly wasn't working the last 8 years with the dictator in charge. Shrouded in secrecy. Executive privilage, states secrets, refusing to testify, etc.

He can't, he's doing this:

I hear what you guys are saying. What is the point you are trying to make?

Why won't you admit in writing that corporations are a big part of whats wrong with America right now?

They are, we have, you just don't bother to read and comprehend things. You blow over posts until you find the 'negative on Dems' part, then rant.

It isn't the politicians alone. The politicians have been paid off, by corporations. Thus, the corporations are the problem. Or the corporations getting too cozy with our politicians.

Both are a problem.

And then go back and look at all the pork the GOP spent. Why weren't you outraged back then?

Was outraged then. Guess you missed the posts of 'pork is pork regardless of political party'. Try reading posts rather than just spewing your hatred of the GOP.

 Link?

Remember we had Obama speak after one of Bush's state of the union addresses 4 or 5 years ago?

That's why the GOP trotted out Bobbi Jindal after Obama's last state of the economy address.

Remember? It went horribly.

Do I need to link that Rush is the leader of your party?

Do I really need to prove that your fucking pick for VP is considering a run in 2012?

Or that the very handsome Mitt Romney won't be back?

Why don't you tell me who you think your front runners are.

The bonuses that were a done deal when Geithner put together the AIG bailout package? If they can break these contracts what kind of precedent will that set?

You know what... You stay asleep... I've got a party to plan.... I'm going to party like it's 1773.

If the Republican party doesn't grow up and realize we are revolting and join us, I will be turning in my membership card.

I'm not protesting because of Republicans or Democrats... I'm protesting because of all of it.

Read you Constitution!!!

Way to soon to tell. I thought that was obvious. Please provide a link as to who is running in 2012.

Rush is the leader of the GOP. I see you been faithfully drinking your koolaid. What flavor is it this month?

The bonuses that were a done deal when Geithner put together the AIG bailout package? If they can break these contracts what kind of precedent will that set?

I heard this discussion yesterday on NPR. A guy was saying that it would be a horrible precedent to breaking contracts.

But the fact is, there are other ways around this problem. We can tax those bonus' 100% or we can take it out of the next installment that goes to AIG.

Funny thing is, the bonus' were to keep the talent at AIG because they were apparently the only ones who knew how to defuse the bomb they created.

But 11 or 12 of them no longer work for AIG.

Yes, this is a mess. That's why I'm not so quick to blame Obama or Dodd before I know all the facts.

For example, they were guaranteed last year, so maybe there is nothing that can be done about it.

But what really ticks me off is that the Ford & GM workers are renegotiating their contracts so they don't go bankrupt and lose their pensions.

So we could have AIG go bankrupt, but then they say that would hurt the economy.

So because those employees contracts wouldn't mean shit if AIG went bankrupt, and AIG would have gone bankrupt without tax payer $, I say those contracts should be null and void.

And I did hear that Obama does have the power to take those bonus' back, because we own 80% of AIG.

How about this. How about if I buy your company, I don't have to honor all the crappy promises that you promised your employees. New owner, new promises.

But very good question you asked.

These companies in trouble taking our tax money just don't get it. They think they are some sort of privileged group. If all sides, right and left, raise enough of a noise to let them know their time of incompetent rule is over, we may get a better financial system at the other side.

Fire the CEOs like you would of any failed organization and have them find some competent people to do this work.

We seem to have bred a generation of incompetent financial lizards. Start over with the old organization and new leadership.

Without "He Who's Name We May Not Mention" out of office, Fox can't use their normal prattle time to praise him. So now the Murdock alterego has turned it's Foxed Fury on Obama.

Even when they make a mistake, they don't recant it. They just move on. Typical behavior for and idealogue who is out to destroy his enemy truth or not.

Its worse than that.

They fuck up and then play the BIG LIE card to blame their fuckup on somebody else.

And the tools on this board, are either so stupid they miss it, or so partisan that they'll spread the lie hoping that by repeating it, they can make it the truth.

It's astounding, really.
WOW how ironic
you completely absolve the democrats in congress from this and blame Bush solely

and you want to talk about partisanship??????

pot, kettle

Those of you who think those contracts are a "done deal" and nothing can be done about them that wouldn't set some horrible precedent obviously know nothing about bonus and business contracts, contract law, and how frequent and commonplace revising business contracts after the fact is, particularly in light of poor job performance or dire circumstances for the company (like going under without a government bailout).

From the same source linked to by many as a resource on the disingenuous attempts by the White House to blame Dodd for what Summers and Geithner did:

The sanctity of AIG's contracts - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

The sanctity of AIG's contracts

Larry Summers, Sunday, on AIG’s payment of executive bonuses:
We are a country of law. There are contracts. The government cannot just abrogate contracts. Every legal step possible to limit those bonuses is being taken by Secretary Geithner and by the Federal Reserve system.

Associated Press, February 18, 2009:

The United Auto Workers’ deal with Detroit’s three automakers limits overtime, changes work rules, cuts lump-sum cash bonuses and gets rid of cost-of-living pay raises to help reduce the companies’ labor costs, people briefed on the agreement said today.

The UAW announced Tuesday that it reached the tentative agreement with General Motors Corp., Chrysler LLC and Ford Motor Co. over contract concessions, as GM and Chrysler sent plans to the Treasury Department asking for a total of $39 billion in government financing to help them survive.

Concessions with the union are a condition of the $17.4 billion in government loans that the automakers have received so far.

Apparently, the supreme sanctity of employment contracts applies only to some types of employees but not others. Either way, the Obama administration’s claim that nothing could be done about the AIG bonuses because AIG has solid, sacred contractual commitments to pay them is, for so many reasons, absurd on its face.

Finally we can start calling you guys the conspiracy theorists.

Prove it. Seriously, prove it.

Yesterday one of you even tried to pretend Dick Cheney didn't out Valerie Wilson, even though Scooter was convicted of obstructing justice and lying to prosecutors.

If they didn't do it, why lie?

So it is hard to take you guys seriously. Fox has been known to lie. They were even taken to court and the verdict was that it is ok for Fox to lie. So why should we believe them when we know they lie and it is legal for them to do so?

Example. They might truly believe what they are reporting, but the source of their information is bad. So they aren't obligated to have facts on their show.

So they use that to lie. "hey, that's the information we were given"

Very similar to the Yellow Cake from africa/WMD/Downing Street memo's information Bush got. He got to pretend that he was innocent and just got bad information. Now we know he chose to ignore credible information because it didn't help him with his reasoning for invading Iraq.

So I need verification of your story.

Look you weasel...Scooter nor Cheney outted Plame. Listen up...it was Richard Armitage That outted her. :cuckoo: Go back and do your homework sonny. There were posts from yesterday, but you being the political hack that you are, just like to deny the facts. Get the facts before you post your yarns. Again I will also say...seeing that you just hit and run....Plame wasn't covert either. I bet that's news your bias ass doesn't want to accept. :cuckoo:

PS....Don't let the facts get in the way of your story

I have already seen all the facts and yes Valerie Plames was covert.

In fact, people died when Cheney/Libby/Armitage outted her. People who helped her or were friends with her overseas are all in fear for their lives.

You just want to blame Armitage. He's your fall guy. You guys are pathetic. Scooter was convicted for lying and obstructing justice. Why? Was he protecting Richard Armitage?

Why did Armitage do it? You silly little liar.

Just like torture. You sent those guards at Abu Grabe to prison when it was Rumsfeld who told everyone to torture.

These are facts. Please explain to me what agenda Richard Armitage had on his own against Joe Wilson and Valerie Plames?

It was Cheney, and you know it. To deny it only further hurts your credibility.

And you lied and/or got it wrong on this Dodd story all day yesterday.

To me, you have zero credibility.

Bobo your an idiot, and you know it. You can't admit to the facts, and your nothing more than a left wingnut hack. When the facts are there you still have to spin your yarn. I don't have to answer any of your questions. This all started when I said 'Scooter didn't out Plame"...that's the truth, and I stated, that "Plame wasn't covert", and that's the truth. Nobody has died because of it you liar. Also, show me where I have had anything to say about Dodd on this thread...again your a liar. Talk about no credibility, hell you never had any. So go spin your damn lies that your left wing hack site tells you to spin. You mindless SOB.

Is this story about Dodd false? I heard it no where else last night. I even watched Fox News while I was at the gym on my MP3 and they didn't say anything either.

God I hope it is false so we can mock the right wingers who put out disinformation.

And Fox News was making me sick. They are trying sooo hard to push their talent. Bill O'Reilly had Glen Beck on and they are bragging that guy up big time. I think Glen Beck is literally insane.
The latest is, Dodd and the administration are claiming Dodd's amendment was one with teeth, that would prevent crap like this, and so on -- but that some unknown person "watered it down" in committee without anyone noticing.

I wouldn't doubt it if Dodd turned out to be shady. But damn it, he impressed me last year when he fought against retro immunity for the telecoms.

The right has attacked him a couple times in the last few months. Freddy/Fanny and now this.

I haven't decided yet if he is a two faced politician or if he is really good and thats why the right are attacking him all the time.

They do that you know. Attack a really good person to make him seem radical. They did it to Clinton, Michael Moore, Al Franken, Dennis Kucenich.

Hell, the right even did it to Ron Paul when Dr. Paul spoke out against the Federal Reserve.

Can't deny they do that.

Look at how they threw Powell under the bus and Scott McClellen, or any general who spoke out against the Iraq war.

Look what they did to Joe Wilson & Valerie Plames.

If you threaten the GOP, they go after you until your name is mud.

So Chris Dodd is probably a great man.
oh? really?
you are so full of shit your eyes MUST be brown
