Time Magazine: Obama All Talk No Action

It seems the contract that the company made with the employees creates legal issues, must be frustrating for the government to have their hands tied. It seems congress has the same problem, all talk but no action.

I surely hope that these greedy bastards (the ones that claim those bonuses) will get the bad consequences for their actions. Normally (without bailout) they would have caused the people of their company (including them) to loose their jobs.

And if you want to talk about facts: it is congress who bailed out AIG.

The Treasury Department has already concluded that the bonuses in question, which were first made public in late January, cannot be rescinded because they resulted from airtight contracts that had been signed in April of 2008.

Though Obama's tone fell somewhat short, he has proven that he understands the level of the humiliation now being foisted on American taxpayers. He described the stakes of the current situation perfectly. "This is not just a matter of dollars and cents," the President said in the East Room. "It's about our fundamental values. All across the country, there are people who are working hard and meeting their responsibilities every single day without the benefit of government bailouts or multimillion dollar bonuses."

Did the government NOT realize that these bonuses would have to be paid when the government handed over all the bailout money? Obama understands the 'level of humiliation' that's being foisted on taxpayers? He should -- the government's the one who foisted it upon us.

I completely agree - but therein lies one of the primary creators of agitation. The American people - some of them - are realizing that the Democrat controlled Congress is moving on its 3rd year of power. Logic dictates that they then bear much of the responsibility for the current economic situation, a responsibility they have deflected as "Bush's mess". The White House has utilized this often as well, but now more and more grow weary of this tactic.

No, it is YOUR mess folks, and we want you to clean it up, not give yet another empty performance repeating the same tired cliches...

The individual most responsible for the improvement in the market right now is Bernanke. His 60 minutes performance was excellent - just the right measure of caution and optimism. The White House would do well to sit back and let Bernanke take the lead because it truly appears as if he is the only one who actually understands the needs of the economy at this particular moment.

Obama? He very much appears in over his head...

Revoke the bailout money and force them into bankruptcy. Once reorganization has taken place, which would allow them to void these contracts, then the government can help them out under new terms. That is the only way I can see them responding to this. Anything less will prove to only be talk. Of course, those who are receiving these bonuses via the American taxpayer could choose to forego these bonuses, but guess what? They don't want to walk away from a free lunch.

More revisionist right wing bullshit. The right blocked as much legislattion that they could when the dems had their "slight" majority. They didn't have their way like your side did for 4 years when you owned all three branches. The right just did what ever they wanted for four years and told the left to piss off. Now you're complaining that in the two years that they had a chance to reverse the flow, they haven't done it yet.

What a bunch of crap.

They should have wrote a provision over this. These things are what happens when the government tries to bail first think later

Now read up and realize who bailed AIG out my friends.

It would appear Wiki is pointing the finger at the Fed and the Democrat controlled Congress...

And then we have Democrat Chris Dodd adding and amendment protecting contracted bonuses - the same Chris Dodd who now feigns outrage over these same bonuses he protected - the same Democratat Chris Dodd who received the single most campaign contributions of anyone in 2008...

Its was Bush and team who wanted no stipulations.

Please stick to the facts folks.

You would do well to obtain facts prior to forming opinion...

They had the presidency, they had the house and they had the senate.

That is majority control of the entire governement, not to mention they politicized the DOJ.

Ohh they did did they, so using YOUR logic, since the Democrats control the Congress and the Presidency and APPROVED the bailout with protection for the bonuses then whom is to blame again?
