Democrats: If we can't spread the virus we'll spread abject fear and paranoia among the masses

Fake news. President Obama already killed us all with Ebola.

We're all going to die.

No, you're not. Only about 10% of the people who get the virus will die from it, and it will be the old, the very young, and the weak, all the people Republicans don't give a shit about anyway, so win for you.

But what will happen is that enough people will get sick to seriously disrupt the economy. And because most working Americans are only one lost paycheck away from fiscal disaster, this could get very ugly, very quickly. Plus there's the economic impact of everyone staying home, and hunkering down. Yes, there will be a lot of babies born 9 months from now, but in the immediately future, no one will be going out if they don't have to.

I live in Toronto during the SARS outbreak there. We went to work and ate at our desks. Those who could work from home, did so. We did not go to the theatre, the movies, or sporting events. We stayed home unless we HAD to go somewhere. Performances of plays and sporting events at all levels, were cancelled. People did not take transit if they could help it.

The PATH, the large underground shopping mall which extends from Union Station in the South, to just north of Yonge & Dundas (Dundas Square) is usually packed with Financial District workers during lunch hours in winter. There are massive food courts where they meet friends for lunch. You could roll a bowling ball through those concourses during the SARS outbreak and not hit anybody. The whole city was ghostly. The impact on our local economy was killing and it took months for the businesses to recover. Anyone who so much as sneezed in the office was told to go home.

There was a publlic enquiry at the end to see what could have been done better, and the Province seems better prepared this time.

Fear and paranoia seem to spreading around the world

Nothing to do with Dems
