    >>Bush is going to win comfortably in South Dakota. Thune is a well-known guy in SD, who barely lost his Senate run last year<<

Has Thune even declared yet? Last I heard he was still considering it. What are Bushes numbers in SD, I can only find national numbers (for free)

Well. I'm from South Dakota, so I have a pretty clear view of
what's going on. Daschle's been immensely popular here because he's seemed pretty laid back and conservative for a democrat.
Besides that, he gets bills the farmers like passed.

Most of the towns in South Dakota are shrinking, though.
Farms aren't needed as much as they used to be, and
kids aren't as interested in keeping their parents' farms.

Meanwhile, Daschle hasn't been as laid back as he used
to be. In fact, he's been a bit wild.

    Those things will hurt him.

    On the other hand,
    the Republicans have a problem.

No one they run against him has the popularity or name recognition needed to beat him.

John Thune lost to Tim Johnson last year, and that loss
will hurt his chances against Daschle.

Our Republican Governor is quite popular, but he's busy
    governing.

    So my prediction is this:

Daschle will win - but not by the landslide he usually
wins by. That will give Republicans some encouragement,
and perhaps they'll run someone new and get them some
name recognition, so by the time the next election rolls
around, Daschle will have some real competition.

*Grin* Either way, I'll be voting against him.

    No, Thune hasn't declared yet.
I can't give you Bush's numbers off hand,
but I'm sure he'll win comfortably. When
it comes to Presidential elections, we're
    a Republican state.

60% For Bush 37% for Gore in 2000 according to your secretary of state (which incidently, he needs to post a new photo on his website, it looks like his H.S. graduation snapshot...you might want to mention it next time you see him up the Walmart).;)
