If the the Darfuri rebel movements read the political status quo in Sudan and consider President Al Bashir’s call for national dialogue, they will never hesitate to join the running dialogue tending to end the conflict.

It’s not in favour of the armed movements whose gaps with their people have increased to turn their back on the initiative announced by the President of the Republic to engage all the political parties and the rebel groups in the national dialogue to put an end to national crises.

Al Bashir said Sudan had now “guaranteed the atmosphere for freedoms and the safeguarding of the freedom of expression of individuals and groups”.

“Today, we announce a decision to free all the political prisoners and renew our commitment to all political powers about dialogue,” he said, without giving further details.

The government would continue to communicate with “all political and social powers without excluding anyone, including those who are armed, for a national dialogue which will bring a solution to all the issues,” he said.

Politics differs from armed operations. Armed holders do not care about development or constructive plans unless they have turned into political body to be subject to accountability and become part of development.

If the rebels groups miss the current initiative, they will melt down even they fight the government for a century and it will be too late for them to catch up with development and national works in case the national dialogue leads to cohesive internal front.

The Darfur rebel movements represent very minor group of the majority Darfurians. So, these rebel movements should join peace process as well as national call before they miss the train and become isolated groups.

Unfortunately, some rebel groups share the separatists of South Sudan their dream that led to the secession of South, although there is a big difference between south Sudan and the nature of the conflict in Darfur.

This dream will fade away because of ethnic composition of Darfur people and other internal factors. If the Darfur rebels read the outcomes well they will realize that South Sudan separatists have begun to regret the secession and call for unity following the failure of the state and the breakout of the deadly violence.
