At 1:30 in the morning, June 6, American parachutists "jump" on the Cotentin. At the same time, Allied aviation began a methodical shelling of German defense systems.

The 2nd Armored Division was an armored division of the United States Army created during the Second World War. It was nicknamed Hell on Wheels (literally "Hell on Wheels").
It was commanded by General George Patton in person from November 1940 to January 1942.

Theodore Roosevelt Jr. is buried in the Colleville-sur-Mer military cemetery. He rests near his brother, killed during the First World War.
